If I replace my lead dive weights with gold, how much do I need?

Platinum is even denser at 21.45 g per cubic cm.

It lets you put much more weight in a small trim pocket.
 
Another consideration might be a reluctance to drop your weight belt in an emergency.

Attach a lift bag so in the event of said emergency you can inflate it and meet it on the surface.
 
Serious freedivers use neck weights to improve trim, makes a big difference underwater in my experience.

Some elite freedivers already do use gold neck weights, and pity the fools still using lead.

The bigger question is; will your new weights be cast or minted?
 
Think of the smuggling possibilities.

Anyone read Nevil Shute's Trustee from the Toolroom? The brother-in-law could have saved himself a lot of trouble and transaction costs by casting some gold or platinum dive weights, painting them and "hiding" them in plain sight with his snorkeling gear.
