Looking at getting a dry suit

I don't have a drysuit yet but thinking about getting one. I really like my Waterproof brand wetsuit and have a friend with one of their drysuits. She seems pretty impressed with it. My shop recommended I try the D7X. D7X Nylotech - Waterproof Diving

Traveling with carry on and fins

I would think you'll be ok as I see kids with skate boards all the time in airports. (I don't fly Spirit so no guarantees) If nothing else you could always rent a pair when you get your tanks and weights. EDIT Just read Tattoo John's post. Maybe renting isn't the best idea. LOL

My personal choice is a back inflation with integrated weight pockets. Check with your school about integrated weights for training. They may not let you use them. With the back inflation you don't get any kind of squeeze and integrated weights keep the load off your lower back.

Dive knife for solo diving at CocoView?

I've never considered diving with shears but I'll never dive without something that cuts. I keep this as a reminder to cut a snag instead of trying to pull free. While diving in a lake I felt my leg get hung up. I tried to pull it free and that is when I saw some fishing line. I pulled my...

    Ft Wetherill Dive weekend

I've only been there once and it was back in 87 when I did my open water dives to get my certification. There were a ton of horseshoe crabs back then.

Kauai, Oahu, Maui or Big Island for Diving?

I've been to the big island and Oahu. Out of the two The big island hands down. We stayed in Kona and had great dives everyday. Our first day we went out with a shop on a boat dive and had a blast. The rest of the week we did shore dive. If you go you have to go to Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau...

Who "Fails" Open Water Scuba Certification and why

Had a guy fail in my class because on our second open water he couldn't do the drills. We were in the ocean with reduced visibility and he just couldn't get them done.

    5mm suit?

I'll second this one. I've been in 53 deg. water with my 5mm and neoskin and never felt the cold. If you can find a place to try one on. They run a little small.

Thoughts on how many years we should expect our dive computers to function properly.

I've got an Oceanic Datamax Pro Plus that I bought back in 2001. It's only got 29 dives on it but works great. The thing that sucks is I can no longer download my dives because it's outdated and no longer supported. So unless I can find something running windows 98 or maybe XP I'm done...
