    Major screw up-mostly my fault

Thanks again everyone for the kind words. I do plan to continue diving as long as I am cleared by a doc regarding the whole asthma thing. I set up an appt for early Sept in Houston with a group of docs that are supposed to be some of the best in the field. Luckily their practice is on my...

    Major screw up-mostly my fault

Diver85, thanks for the info. This was actually the first dive of the day. I felt okay after a 45min SI so I went on a second dive later just for practice. While on the second dive, I practiced 5-10 times switching between my own primary and secondary just to get more comfortable. Being a...

    Major screw up-mostly my fault

Max depth was 14.4m, dive time was 51min, I am not sure exactly at what time I hit 1000PSI, I would have to guess somewhere around the 35min mark. At this same site on check out dives I usually hit 50bar at about 38-40 min.

    Major screw up-mostly my fault

I trained with PADI. Due to where I currently live (Qatar), it is sometimes difficult to have checked/convey certian medical issues when checked. I had a full physical 16 months ago, am an avid weightlifter and squash player, so I considered myself at a good physical fitness level. After...

    Major screw up-mostly my fault

This past weekend I went on my 10th and 11th open water dives and major screwed up, and now have lost all confidence as I feel that I almost killed myself. Just to give a little background - I just got my PADI OW about a month ago and had absolutely no problems. I then went to Maldives and...

LDS versus Online - unique situation

Thanks everyone for all of the information. I am still very up in the air about the whole situation. The only reason I am trying to stick with ScubaPro for regs is due to their long-lasting stellar reputation. I do not plan on buying new gear for quite a number of years, so I am trying to buy...

LDS versus Online - unique situation

I have a special deal with the US company that I work for here. They will ship me 80lbs per month for free from a US address to Qatar. We also have customs clearing agents hired by the company that handle any problems. The only thing I have had trouble receiving so far is a set of poker...

    New Diver....extremely lucky first trip

I was using a Canon Powershot A520 on its automatic underwater settings. Basically from what I understand, the flash only fires if you are within a few feet of the focused area. So yes, most were taken without flash. I am interested in learning how to change the color balance. I have...

    New Diver....extremely lucky first trip

Hi everyone, I am a new diver that got my OW in Qatar. After my 4 cert OW dives...the first place I dove was in the Maldives. I wonder if I am spoiled for life now! It's not everyday that on your first REAL dive, you are swimming with Manta Rays. Check out the pics I took: Photo Sharing...

LDS versus Online - unique situation

Before I beat a dead horse....I have read for days all the threads on here dating back to 2003 about leisurepro versus an LDS. However I am in a bti of a unique situation and would like some input. I currently live in Qatar where we have two licensed dive shops. One sells exclusively...

    Hello from Qatar!

Howdy Kelly, I have lived in Qatar for a year and a half but am just getting around to getting certified this week. By the end of next week I should have my PADI OW and would love to get together for some dives. I have a few colleagues here that are also certified or getting certified as...
