Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

Try Bottom Time Divers - Raul Owner/DM. I use them. Pedro Pablo and Raul, worked together at what was Blue Bubble then together at BlueXTsea. Raul left to start his own business and has been doing so for many years. It is very similar in operation to BlueXTSea and other boutique dive ops (8...

Question St. Lucia - Sandals vs. Local Shop

Having stayed at a few Sandals and St Lucia twice (but not Halcyon), I would go with your plan of an outside dive op. The Sandals boats are nice and they are professional but the dives are short and regimented. There will be alot of honeymoon and vacation divers so the dives are catered to...

Your wind speeds are in Km/h. Mine is set to knots. It might be what is causing some confusion - your earlier screenshots don't have units.

True. Party boats too. We go further out where it's deeper. You can snorkel or dive it and with small boats.

Trip Report Cozumel diving and photos March 2024

It was in the flats on one of the sites in the park. I don't remember which. Greater than 10 feet FSW. A bit unusual. At El Cielo they are in the sand mostly. This one as you can see has alot of rock rubble around it.

    Local News

Tourists are taken to northern beach clubs by the busload and have for some time in full view of the taxis parked outside them. I am shocked that no swimmers, snorkelers or divers on the north end haven't been run over by jet skis, the little go fast boats, the jet boats running tourists to...

Trip Report Cozumel diving and photos March 2024

March 2024 Cozumel I had six days diving mid to late march 2024. Mid week the south winds picked up and the Palancars were closed and the port closed at noon one day and remained closed until 9 am the next day. After that the weather was good. On the windy days the seas made getting up the...

    Info Park pass Cozumel

I got my park pass today, which the government calls Pasaporte del la Conservacion. It is still via Conanp. I was a bit later in getting this year and in previous years I could do it online. It is btw, for all national parks with some exceptions which I don't know. However the site to buy a...

    St. lucia in July

We were there many years ago in Aug and it was mostly hot and muggy. If it did rain, it did not last long. I do remember some overcast days. We did go diving anytime we wanted so rain did not interfere. I think we were there during a particularly hot summer so we did have a shallow dive with...

Rangiroa add on worth it for 2 days of diving?

Rangiroa is good. Dolphins in the pass and Mantas on the outside the reef. Fakarava is better IMO. Both better than Moorea though I did like diving it. Lots of lemon sharks there in addition to black tip reef sharks. If you go to Rangiroa (or even Fakarava), make sure you have a boat going...

Question What Dive Op to use in Cozumel for a newer diver?

I use Bottom time divers and have done so for many years and more when the DM/owner of BTD was working for Blue Bubble (gone/sold) and BlueXtSea. He deals with all ranges of experience. We always dive our computer and air and you will have AL 80's or AL100's if you ask. He has an 8 pack boat...

LF: digital sources of Tropical Reef Marine ID other than fish

Occasionally some of the mirrored databases for fishbase are not reachable (like .org for me that sometimes says page not found). In many cases it will automatically redirect.

Fishbase and whatsthatfish are free. Seems the fish ID book is already paid for by someone. So borrow the reef creature - free.

Reef Creature Tropical Pacific Humann and Deloach. Fishbase.se and Whatsthatfish.com. The latter can be a bit thin but it's a start. These have some "non-fish" IDs. I assume you want pacific. Nudibranch and Sea slug Identification, Indo pacific, Gosliner et al Seahorses and cuttlefish are...

Diving at Taveunin, Fiji: Any Chance for Strong Currents at Rainbow Reef at Full Moon?

It's been quite a long time since we dove those two but yes there is current there but the surge caused us to work more. 3 steps forward and two back. It was manageable though. I have been in much stronger currents in Cozumel. There were vacation divers (of which we were technically but at...
