    DIV Light question

Hi there! I want to make a couple of video lights for the fun of it. The idea is to make a small canister out of aluminum pipe. In the front I'll put a plexiglass disk with an o-ring and a retaining ring, in the back a cap that you can easily open, just like the traditional ones found in...

    Instructor closing valves?

I was watching this nice video about cave diving training and noticed that at one point during a blackout drill the instructor closes a student's valve. I thought that was a big no-no during training. Is that just a GUE thing? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQyekjC5URY

    Removing urinal cathether...

I recently installed a p-valve in my drysuit and wonder if there are any tricks for removing the catheter. The best method I found is with curd soap under the shower, but it takes quite some time and I'm left with glue rests all over... Putting some appropriate content on the TV also helps...

    Suggestion US-EU Translator

Hello SB! it would be great to have a text filter that replaces things like "200 ft" into "200 ft (61m)" and also the other way around. It should be very simple to implement in PHP. Other things that you can translate other than feet/meters would be psi / bar, pounds / kilograms, fahrenheit /...

    Number of dives metric

It seems all agencies use the number of dives to qualitatively measure the experience of a diver. Wouldn't it be better to use the number of hours underwater instead? Someone once went as far as suggesting me to log three 20 minutes dives instead of the one hour dive I did... WTF.

    Standardized Prices?

Hi there! It seems the GUE training beyond fundamentals costs a small mountain of cash each time. Is there is an agreement between the instructors to standardize the cost of the courses or should I ask different ones and see whether there is a considerable difference or not? What are your...

Si Tech Neck Tile vs. Quick Neck

I'm planing on replacing my glued latex seals with a SiTech system when they start leaking. There are two options for the neck seal: Neck Tiles and Quick Neck. The latter seem to be better allowing more flexibility. Is there any reason to prefer the former? Any advice? Thanks!

    How common are sabotages?

Hi there, today I was reading about the European Karst Plain Project (ekpp.org) and it turns out that some years ago someone sabotaged one of their push dives in Source de Vis, France. The cave is located in a remote area and they laid their safety scooters, rebreathers and cylinders in the...

    Thoughts on 6mm steel backplates

Hello folks, I'm moving to a dry suit and want to buy a heavier backplate to use with it since the one I have is a light one made of aluminum and I don't want to wear a bulky weight belt. What do you think about 6mm steel BPs? They weight about 5kg (11lbs) and seem like a more elegant solution...

Apeks High-Profile or SiTech exhaust valve

Hi It's time to order my first dry suit and I would like to know your experiences with these valves. I have read that the low-profile Apeks are sometimes leaky while the SiTechs aren't. Is that also true for the high profile ones? Thanks.

On Monday (05/12/2014) in the early morning hours lots of tech gear were stolen from Jan Medenwaldts' car in Hemmoor, Germany. The gear belongs to him and Derk Remmers, one of GUE's top guys in Germany. Please keep an eye on any online sales for used equipment. Here is the list of items...

Drysuit Primer: is it worth the money?

Hi there, I'm planing on investing in a drysuit. The shop I'm buying it from also offers GUE's drysuit primer and I wonder if it's worth the $300. Has anyone done this primer and can give me some objective advice? All people I normally dive with use drysuits, so I'm already familiar with...

    Self-ditchable weights

In the book "Caverns Measureless to Man", Sheck Exley mentions that when they were trying to break the deep diving record on air, they used some sort of weights that released themselves as soon as the diver looses consciousness. The strategy was to descend more or less until going unconscious...
