Does anyone know what is going on these days at the place across the street from Villablanca that used to be Turquoise?

Perhaps I wasn't clear; I wasn't asking about places to hear music, but rather places to get away from it - especially loud Anglo music - either recorded or live. I would like to find someplace quiet to watch the sunset over the water. If there is any music I would look for it to be low volume...

I would like to find a place south (but not too far south) of town where I can take our group to watch the sunset over the water with low volume Mexican/Caribbean/Reggae music (if there is any music) where we can get a ginebra con agua quinada and chips, queso, salsa, ceviche, etc. Suggestions?

Top rated by people who travel to Cozumel on cruise ships and who have never been to any other restaurant on the island. :D

Ah, right. They didn't close; they just moved. Margaritaville was in town across the street from the Europea liquor store but it's now down in the Puerta Maya complex, and Hooter's moved into Puta Langosta. Both moves were to get them closer to the cruseros.

Still? Both those places closed years ago.

I don't doubt that at all, but as a tourist from the US myself I would rather not be "aimed at" (read: repeatedly and continuously inundated at high volume) with Anglo music when I am on Cozumel. As I say (frequently), if I wanted to feel at home when I am on vacation I would have stayed at home.

Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

I am usually up at first light or before when I am on Cozumel; I love getting into a hammock with a cup of coffee at dawn and watching the island wake up. Pretty much every morning when it is just getting light, a swarm of swallows comes by; for a couple of minutes they are everywhere, swooping...

Mateo is a great DM, isn't he? He is the primary (only?) instructor at BA, so if he has students he will be dealing with them instead of going out as a DM. The last time we were there we were lucky and got to go out with him several times. Mateo is an old friend and fellow Deadhead; ask him...

Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

Their website still says 8AM. It was 8AM every time I have been there and I am a very long time guest. I will be there again in June, so I guess I will find out if they changed it. I hope they did not; an 8AM departure was never a problem for me. https://blueangelresort.com/diving

Picking a new op with pier pickup at Blue Angel

They do, and it is so much talked about that it appears not to be a secret from the taxistas; perhaps they have some sort of agreement in place. Was it actually illegal for Aldora or just counter to what the taxi union wanted?

Of course there are such things happening, but music from the US and Great Britain, both recorded and imitated, is very prevalent in clubs and restaurants on the island. Personally, I wish it would all go away.

I really wish that there was less gringo music and more Mexican and reggae music being played in the clubs on Cozumel. If I wanted to feel at home I'd have stayed home.

The dive boats I am on always slow down when they get to this point; possibly the boat that capsized did not do that.

Many times when we are returning from diving, when we pass by cruise ships docked there the seas suddenly get a lot rougher. It seems like the wave action may be funneled and concentrated in the area to seaward of the ships.
