    IMAX 3D next spring!

This is a totally new production. As I said in an earlier post, the site had previews during the filming. I think the older 3D IMAX was called 'Deep Sea' and is still doing the rounds. No doubt this one will be around again. Unlike 'normal' movies, IMAX films tend to repeat regularly.

    IMAX 3D next spring!

The launch has now been annunced. Only UK location is London so far, but it will show in loads of (mainly US) sites from February 13th (just a couple of days time!). There is a list of the IMAX locations that will show it on the release date at the following site...

    problem doing my white balance

I agree with both these points. Your camera can shoot RAW, and that is certainly the way to go, when underwater; partly because it is easier to tweak the white balance later, and partly because white balance changes with depth, so without shooting RAW you would need to be almost constantly...

    What are fire ants?

Bear in mind that Orthene is an organophosphate (active ingredient is Acephate - look it up. It's found in many other trade names besides Orthene). Take extreme precautions if/when you use it. Particularly ensure that your pets do not go near it - it will kill them.

    Are you a vegetarian?

I like vegetarians. Even those from the planet Vega... But I don't think I could eat a whole one.

    What are fire ants?

Takes me back! I was camping many moons ago and pitching a tent bare-foot. It suddenly felt like someone tipped a pan of boiling water on my foot. There were hundreds of fire ants biting my left foot in unison. Having removed them (and me+tent from vicinity), my foot was a mass of blisters...

    Rescue Diver?

I agree that it is reasonable to ask for 20 dives, but some posters here seem to think it is a PADI requirement. That is simply a mis-reading of the sentence that asks for 20 dives if the pre-requisite training was not provided by PADI. It's a different matter if a PADI instructor insists on a...

    Rescue Diver?

Nope! If you read the rest of the thread, you will see that the only pre-requisites that PADI impose are AOW and EFR (or equivalent). They only require 20 dives if the 'AOW' comes from another agency; not the EFR.

    Just bought a G10

I think with macro work, the housing will cause a shadow. But probably less of a shadow than you'd get with the Ikelite's larger port. The Canon does come with a diffuser, but my guess is that the shadow will still be evident.

Very dangerous experience - advice please!

Nice one! ;) Though we Brits are equal sufferers of the 'everyone speaks Ingrish so we don't need to learn another language' syndrome.

    SeaQuest Pro QD i3 evaluation...

At least you have the choice of black! Only have blue ones here. It does attach nicely though, as you no doubt know. Comes with everything required.

Ready to buy first underwater digital camera, need help

Whilst I concur that the G10 (OK, mine is actually G9!) and Ikelite is heavy on land (especially with strobe attached), making it a little awkward to pass back to the boat, it is no problem under water. In fact it almost floats without the strobe (though I mostly do take the strobe down, even...

    Rescue diver, theory vs practice

This is exactly what is being started in Dubai, as I stated in another thread. The real benefit is actually to the emergency services, who are very keen to take part; including helicopter evacuation! As you say, they need training opportunities too. The intent in Dubai is to involve more...

    Just bought a G10

Some don't, some do! They call the feature a 'modeling light'. See IKELITE Substrobe DS125 digital I do think the ability to use TTL flash (which needs the Ikelite housing + strobe + sync cable) is a major plus, and well worth the extra money. TTL flash not only takes the guesswork out of...

    Just bought a G10

I would go with the Ikelite housing, too. Canon do have their own housing, which is cheaper and more compact. I have the slightly older G9+Ikelite. The Ikelite housing has a few benefits over the Canon offering: It gives access to all the camera's buttons and dials It allows the use of...

    Firing remote flash

I am really not sure what the Ikelite (which I use) bulkhead connector works, but each is unique to the camera (as far as reading their site is concerned). They say they have some circuitry between the hot shoe plug and the bulkhead connector to enable the (G9 in my case) camera's TTL to work...

How much weight do I need?

I think that advice is a little wrong! You should do as suggested, but fully inhale. If ideally weighted, you should float roughly at eye level with a lung full (not painfully so, just a normal breath) and sink when you exhale. If you want to be most accurate, do the check with an almost...

    Quick question about weighting

Whilst that is a possibility (instructors do tend to over-weight beginners so they can kneel on the bottom easily), but with a 3mm wetsuit and AL80, I dive with 16lbs and I am not over weighted. I basically float too well is all (fat floats, though I am not clinically obese!! ;) ). I cannot...

    SeaQuest Pro QD i3 evaluation...

I broke the top part of the left torso clip (the round rotating one) after very few dives, on the first dive yesterday. Thankfully (a) the DM boat captain lent me his, and (b) the shop have given me a brand new QD+i3 as a warranty replacement. Be very careful with those clips, they are...

    Increasing bottom time

That's a great idea. It's possible that you are over weighted and the course will sort that out, as well as helping you spend less enegry staying neutral. My SAC went way down after that that course. It's still not great, but I can recognise when I am stressed about something (like buddy...
