Morehead City Trip Report Instigator Fishing & Dive Charters 10/19 and 10/20

Wow! That was a great DIVREP! Yeah, I've coined a new term (I think) borrowed from aviation where when a pilot gives a report on flight conditions to ATC called a PIREP. Anyway, we just moved to Wilmington from Tejas and I am really looking forward to MHC dives at some point!

No More Support For Data Mask?

Yep! Frankly, I've logged 10 years of dives with my DM, so I can't complain. With today's electronics, it could easily be redesigned so that the two major issues with it (bulkiness and FOV) could be greatly improved and they could add Bluetooth to boot. Oh well. <sigh>

No More Support For Data Mask?

RIP. I used my DM for the last time today (Monterey Bay). Worked flawlessly, but now I can't get the data to download--bummer, I'll have to log it manually, but won't have the neat graphs it produced for over a decade of dives. I am going to miss it, best dive buddy I ever had :(

    Domeboro Otic

    I think you mean Shkreli.

    Domeboro Otic

Nonsense, but everyone has their own formula for 'ear beer'. I just know mine works and is easy (USN and DAN approved, too).

    Domeboro Otic

$5,000 per nanoliter? A bit pricey. You can get 12 packets, that's 12 dives, for $14.79 at CVS.

    Just Google "Domeboro Otic".

Suunto Eon Steel Review (post 30 dives)

Biggest issue with the Seabear is the OLED. The EON solves that issue.

Imitation GoPro Cameras from China. Any Good?

Just a quick bump and update. Got back from a 4-day out to the FGNMS on the Fling. Bought a GoPro hand-wrist-leg-arm strap at BB just before leaving ($19.99). My DBPower fit on it perfectly. Strapped to my hand, it survived jumps from the deck (seven or eight of them). Camera worked perfectly...

Imitation GoPro Cameras from China. Any Good?

I'd like to see that video. I had great success with my 'El Cheapo' and at 100' had no issues with buttons, leaks, etc. Would I have rather had a GoPro? Yes, and I'd like a Ferrari to drive too. These cameras have a place in the economics of things.

Imitation GoPro Cameras from China. Any Good?

My camera works great. By 'quirky' I meant that you have to format the disk chip on the camera. I experienced issues between my MacBook Air and the camera. As long as I just transfer the video and stills from the disk chip to the computer and do all the file operations on the camera, all is...

Imitation GoPro Cameras from China. Any Good?

I just got back from eight dives (3 days) hunting Lionfish in Pensacola and my $40 DBPOWER HD1080 performed well. I had it down to 100' and had no issue with leaking or buttons getting stuck. It is quirky though and after each dive day I copied the videos to my computer from the memory card and...

Great kludge, thanks! How deep have you been able to operate the camera now?

$$$...must be nice to have lots of it.

Force Fins VS the world (advice for first pair of fins?)

I've been amused by this thread from the start. What diver's often miss is the concept of mission. I brought this up in my first post here a few weeks ago. Since some have more time for posting than for diving, the original premise of the thread got lost, which was: "advice for a first pair of...

Force Fins VS the world (advice for first pair of fins?)

I'd like to know what the mark-up is on these. $395? Are they made from unobtanium? Bob?

Force Fins VS the world (advice for first pair of fins?)

After a few years of diving you will find yourself with multiple sets of fins. One set for boat diving, another for the dry suit, a pair for warm coral reefs, etc. Let the force be with you for your first pair. Why not?

    Speedo Nemesis Fins--pool test (long)

Following the many useful (and many hilarious) posts after I asked about using Speedo Nemesis Training Fins for SCUBA, I decided to just buy some and try them out. Fundamentally, I really liked the concept behind the fins, that they are biomimetic to the pectoral fins of the humpback whale. I...

    Speedo Nemesis Fins

Nemesis aren't quite full-foot and I don't want full-foot anyway. What I want is a small fin that is designed for efficiency. The Nemesis fit those criteria and Speedo has a reputation for successful application of biomimetic principles. From the discussion here, I have concluded that none have...
