Always enjoyed the back and forth with the Doc. A sad loss for us all. It's interesting, I have been on ScubaBoard long enough that a number of people I have only known through their board postings have died. Still feel the loss and it's nice to see others here share it as well.
Wednesday to Wednesday? Didn't know about that one, thanks.
Thinking of July or September. Never been there in the summer. Have a non diving trip in December so looking earlier in the year than I have typically gone.
I dove after my initial DX, but both my PVDs took several years to fully resolve. My right eye progressed faster. That said, I am not in any way shape or form advising you to ignore your OD's recommendation and go dive. I would suggest obtaining a fuller explanation from your OD about why...
I have an over the ear hearing aid for my left, intact ear now. Twice I have neglected to remove it and got in the water with it under the ear cup on my Pro Ear Mask. It survived the dive both times. Unfortunately it fell into a puddle in the bottom of the boat the second time I did this...
Stumbling across this thread way late, but have 2¢ to add. Use Docs Pro Plugs under your Pro Ear mask ear cups. That should prevent water from catastrophically entering your middle ear through the opening in your eardrum. Another observation about equalizing. If you are using a Pro Ear Mask...
I bought a canoe trailer. It is so much easier loading canoes and kayaks at thigh level than getting them up on top of a vehicle. The Hobie mirage Pro Angler 14 can weigh upwards of 150 lbs/68 kg while the Pro Angler 12 will be around 130 lbs/60 kg. This probably challenges the limits of a...
Subjectively, this is my practice and not qualified medical advice. Try doing a valsalva maneuver just after entering the water. You may consider adding nasal irrigation (NeilMed sinus rinse) to your pre-dive preparations. I find that it helps settle my sinuses, getting them used to having...
Just ran across this thread.
Brandon, I have used the ProEar Mask for several hundred dives. I also use a Doc's Pro Plug with the mask in my potentially leaky ear.
Getting the earcups properly situated is vital. You have to sort of gather your ears into the earcups. I always do this while...
Mostly in reply to mike41799 I have developed slight perforation in my tympanoplasty ear. Belt and suspenders approach, I use a Doc's Pro Plug under the earcup of my IST Pro Ear Mask.
Another observation, which I hope hardly anyone on his board ever experiences, so long as you keep your ear...
Dropping onto the mooring line over Great Lakes shipwrecks it is not uncommon to find monofilament tangled on it. I always carry a line cutter on my belt.
I always have a line cutter. Diving the Great Lakes one can easily get caught up in monofilament trailing off the marker buoy, left there by some guy trolling.
Sorry, I am out of town and missed your question. Yes, all of your equalization techniques will still be needed to equalize. Only difference is that you will need to occasionally need to exhale through your mask to keep the ear chambers equalized.
This theft report did indicate where the truck was parked when the stuff was taken. I wish more people would indicate where the theft(s) occurred. My thinking is that if locals are doing this, then it seems the thefts would be mostly along the northern dive sites. Of course some thieves may...
Socorro trip April 14th. I had no problem with camera equipment. Nor did I hear of anyone else on my boat having any issues. Nautilus gave us information sheets in Spanish explaining that a camera housing is an accessory, not another camera. Apparently they don't tax accessories. I did...
About ear plugs,.Docs Pro Plugs are the only ones I know of which are suitable for diving. These silicone earplugs have a small vent hole. The plug will flex into the outer ear canal and at about 20 ft./6-7 metres, a drop of water will overcome the surface tension of the water over vent hole...
I have used the Pro Ear Mask for most of my diving. In fact, I inadvertently left my over the ear hearing aid on during a dive last week in Socorro. The hearing aid survived, but was damaged when it fell into water in the bottom of the panga.
Try looking up equalization techniques here on...
I have been making my own tray/arm sets for years. I use polypropylene drain pipe. The stuff you install under a sink. The joints slip can rotate which lets you adjust angles. The tray is made from aluminum angle and plate sourced from hardware stores. I assemble the parts with aluminum...
