    Rob Stewart and Third Dive

If the actual diluent was 10/50, is there any scientific data or consensus on optimum ascent rate from these types of dives? I'm asking specifically about allowing time to get the He out of neurological tissues. I know of at least one case of a severe neurological DCS from a 200ft bounce dive...

    Thermalution Yellow battery connector question

Turns out I'm in luck. My buddy (whose vest this is and I'm repairing) had a problem with the original controller, so they sold her another controller complete with charger. So we have a spare charger to cannibalize for ends.

    Thermalution Yellow battery connector question

More testing - it's actually where the wire from the vest goes into the connector. If I isolate everything else and just gently rotate the strain relief, it causes the issue. Whether it's the actual connection between wire and female contacts inside the connector or the wires at the strain...

    Thermalution Yellow battery connector question

I have a thermalution yellow vest. I understand they are no longer in business, but am used to doing my own repairs on stuff. The electrical connector between battery and vest is flakey; I suspect a broken wire. Does anyone know what the type of connector is they use on the vest/battery? Is...

    GoPro Mount for Ikelite

I have a hot-shoe mount for my big camera, and a ball mount for the go-pro. They work very well, but my problem with that solution is the issue of 'quick connect'. There are times I simply want my go-pro somewhere other than on the camera. I can and have done that, but it means undoing the ball...

Ladysmith fatality - Vancouver Island, British Columbia

There aren't a lot of 'official' boat dives near Ladysmith as far as I know. Being visitors I suppose they could have gone diving almost anywhere, but... The two that come to mind are the Chemainus 737 airplane (artificial reef) and Dodd narrows. Both would fit the stated travel time to the...

GoPro 7 Hero Black vs 8: Worth $80 more?

I faced the same decisions a while ago. The 9 had just come out recently, but the 8 was still being sold everywhere. The 7 was already getting very hard to find. I checked out a lot of reviews plus the specs of the 8 and 9, and came to the conclusion that most of the added 'stuff' in the 9 was...

    GoPro Mount for Ikelite

Both I and my buddy used something similar with our Ikelite housings. However, we had the double-handle trays and bought the flex kit that had the handle mount included. It's a great way to carry a gopro or a video light on a camera.

AKASO Brave 7 LE vs GoPro Hero 7/8 vs something else for my use-cases?

I've been through 4 different go-pro clones before I finally splurged and bought an 'official' gopro (the hero 8). The difference in video quality is well worth the difference in price, IMO.

GoPro Housing -- Golem Gear Any Good??

On a similar topic, has anyone used the T-housing? It's aluminum and similar to the Golem housing.

GoPro Housing -- Golem Gear Any Good??

Awesome! Thanks. This is why we get together here - to share information like this. Again, thanks.

GoPro Housing -- Golem Gear Any Good??

To those who bought the GG housing, what is the real difference between the 500ft and 1000ft housing? They look pretty similar and the cost is like $10 difference right now.

    Kupton GoPro protective housing

I find the knock-off housings last about a year, max. Then I begin to see a drop of water inside the housing after the dive and toss it. It's almost always the buttons - they just don't have a very good (i.e. long lasting) seal. I have also found the main silicone seal doesn't last as long...

    Who has had to bailout?

By any chance that really dusty stuff that turns pink? (Grace Sodasorb, I think it was called). That stuff had bigger grains, was soft and very dusty. Nasty dust when packing - which I always did outside. My only breakthrough happened with that stuff many years ago. Since I switched to the...

Alkin W31 2nd/3rd stage water separator issue

I have silicone grease (Chemplex 710) that was recommended with my rebreather, and it's become kind of my universal go-to grease for anything that's not O2 service. I put a very thin film on the new o-ring then reassembled the compressor. Full test from 40bar to 390 bar last night and it's...

Alkin W31 2nd/3rd stage water separator issue

I found another parts manual; this one lists actual o-ring sizes instead of Alkin part numbers. The o-ring is part no. 6893.06 and listed as metric size: 28.17x3.53 NBR. This appears to be AS568 ('standard') size 216, which I have. I compared both the old one to a new 216 and they are...

Alkin W31 2nd/3rd stage water separator issue

Thank you to both Ian and Richard. I got it apart, and it turned out to be very easy! Ian, I love your idea and wish I'd read it before I got it apart. As a result, I did score the aluminum cap somewhat, but I'm OK with that and a little light buffing should have the worst marks out. I used a...

Alkin W31 2nd/3rd stage water separator issue

Thanks very much Ian. I do appreciate the background information. I attached a few photos of my compressor, as well as two of the actual separator. It has a hose clamp on the top cap just to try and minimize scarring of the metal as I try and remove it. (the leak is between top and body where...

Alkin W31 2nd/3rd stage water separator issue

No holes for a pin wrench, and it's too small for any filter wrench I have (only 2in dia). I've already tried a few things, and it is very tight - looks like it requires a lot of torque assuming standard thread (right-tight, left-loose).
