My friend says Mares regulators aren't good - is this true?

to the OP - NO - Mares is not a bad reg. are there better regs ? yes . Look at them for what they are - there is many things they are not - use them how and for what they are intended , and they hold a place firmly of 'ok regulator' in their price range and against their similar...

Are Scubapro regulators made in China?

scubapro regs sure are cheap to buy in China compared to the US. they are supposed to 'leave the country and return' but stuff in China seems to fall off the back of the truck a lot. I purchase a spare scubapro mask here in Beijing which isn't even a strong scuba city for half the price i...

    Diver Height vs. Tank Height

tank size is far more about dive profile than it is about body height. plan your dive and gas according to your dive plan and consumption. trim and balance are better adjusted with the correct placement of weight on your rig. i'm 6'8'' and dive 80's to 130's relative to the dive i'm doing - not...

Great Wall Dive - Beijing PRC

right - @bubbly noob - what I'm saying it that this method offered by Beijing 5star Padi outifts - certifying OW divers in a pool is dangerous . Other companies (and I suggested VVDiving although there ARE others) will NOT certify a new diver without doing it IN OW .

Great Wall Dive - Beijing PRC

Yes Yong the owner-operator speaks English, and runs a very legit PADI organisation - unlike many other PADI 5Star shops in the Beijing area who will certify a diver for open water without getting out of the pool ... VVdiving are quite concerned about doing it the correct way - not only are the...

Great Wall Dive - Beijing PRC

Just back from a weekend trip to the Panjiakou reservoir (spelling may be incorrect) it's an area that was flooded in 1977 by the Chinese government and turned into a reservoir. A village and a section of the wall are at the bottom of the reservoir. If you're looking for an 'easy little dive'...

the government has closed the site to divers. the most recent scuba shop taking divers out was Big Blue and they say their permit is no longer valid - they have been trying to sort this out -not always an easy task in China.

E-Learning and the cost of classes

Is it a new or common practice now for Dive shops to charge more for newstudents who use E_Learning for the theoretical portion of their certifications ? isn't it contrary to the actuality ? less instructor and class time from the DiveShop should equateinto a saving for the student - not an...
