    Aow

When I started, I couldn't get enough. I was lining up what class to take next. The more I could learn and absorb, the better diver I believed I could be. Holds true today. Though the agencies are allowing for multiple specialties to be taken simultaneously, I believe that the more practice...

    SSI Level 2 and up.

Mick, eventually with the other agencies, you will have to buy another log book, if you want to have a log book. There are other ways to log your dives also. There are online log books. Link your computer to your laptop. Apps for your smart phone. I still log in my book, and show my students the...

    Any other MN divers?

    Welcome to the sport!

    Ow in bp/w

Jim, the "Total Dive System" isn't there to get them to buy everything. It's to encourage the students that in order to be better divers, you need to get out and dive. And the best way to do that is to start with owning your gear. With your own gear, you will be more comfortable with how it...

    Time limit to complete courses.

I think that the dive center would want to make good on your commitment by trying to finish the dives. But, like stated above, you will probably need to spend a little refresher time with an instructor on the classroom portion.

    Becoming an Instructor

Arkman, I understand the timing thing also. Self employed, you work for the client on their schedule. You just need to figure out some time. You're a bit far away for me to join you during the week (TC area), but when there's a will there's a way. With SSI starting their dive guide/dive master...

    Regulator service

Jeez LT, that sounds kind of cynical. Just kidding ya. I would agree with that. I'd also say as long as it's stored 'properly'.

    Regulator service

You said 15-20 tanks a year. At that pace I would think every other year would suffice. Depending on whether you bought your set new or gently used. Is it under warranty? Some manufacturers warranty parts on the overhauls, but require annual inspections. You would still be paying for the...

Would it be bad form to thank myself?

It's always fun participating in useless drival? drivel? drivol? Where was it 5 again?

Dive tables take a back seat in SSI training

This may have been mentioned earlier, but the dive tables offer a square profile whereas the computer is constantly adjusting for your depth. As long as you stick with your safe diving plan inside the no-deco limits, you should be fine, barring anything unusal. If a dive computer fails, your...

    Strobe advice

Pulled the trigger on the 161. I'll probably wait a while before getting the second. Now, what to shoot...just about everything I suppose to develop a feel for using the equipment.

    Strobe advice

So would 2-DS51's be the way to go? Would that setup give me better light coverage than say one DS160? I have a friend who uses 2-YS110's. Again would that be the way to go? How do the 110's compare to the DS51's? I have a Canon G11, 99% freshwater diving, so mirky.

    Equipment advise

Hey Edgpr, I've been diving the Aqualung Legend LX Supreme for 6 years, and I've never had an issue. Breathes great. Paid a little more up front, but, I have never been disappointed. My nickle's worth.

    Question about Cross Agency Cert.

There is a difference in the AOW levels. Unless PADI has changed their program, AOW in Padi is 5 dives trying 5 different specialties after your initial OW class, whereas SSI requires 24 dives after OW class + taking 4 specialties. I've taken classes from 3 different agencies. As Muddiver...

How long does it take to receive certification?

Congrats on "officially" becoming a dive-con. I was quite bummed as I followed your saga, and very relieved that your ordeal is over. Hopefully SSI has done something with this guy. Good luck in your new position.

    Original Instructor for Check-Out Dives??

I'd check in with the Dive Center also. Just so they know whats going on; unless the Dive Center is also the DI.

    What should I buy next?

I'd say do the reg & comp first. Get what you'll need for the future. That way you won't be re-investing in too short of a time. I love my air integrated. Check with your LDS, they may have something that they can sell from rental. That's how I bought my first comp.

two dive computers vs. dive tables

I have been diving for 5 years, and other than in owc, tables have not been used by anyone that I know. PDC are becoming more advanced/prevalent in the community. Now having said that, I've been in my instructor training course, and the tables are still taught. It's a good idea to have a basic...
