There is a difference in the AOW levels. Unless PADI has changed their program, AOW in Padi is 5 dives trying 5 different specialties after your initial OW class, whereas SSI requires 24 dives after OW class + taking 4 specialties. I've taken classes from 3 different agencies. As Muddiver...

I'd check in with the Dive Center also. Just so they know whats going on; unless the Dive Center is also the DI.

I'd say do the reg & comp first. Get what you'll need for the future. That way you won't be re-investing in too short of a time. I love my air integrated. Check with your LDS, they may have something that they can sell from rental. That's how I bought my first comp.
