Koh Phi Phi vs. Koh Lanta for Overall Diving Experience

If you prefer less crowded topside scene then definitely Phi Phi is not the place for you, Lanta sounds much more to your liking, and is also closer to sites at Hin Daeng, Hin Muang and Ko Ha Yai. Phi Phi is obviously more convenient for the Phi Phi dive sites and Shark Point. You might also...

where to "go pro" in Thailand

Nobody mentioned Krabi (Ao Nang / Klong Muang) yet, which is understandable as it's fairly new on the IDC scene. There are a couple of IDC Centers here, Aqua Vision and Kontiki, and it offers the best of both worlds - fantastic diving with more choices of sites than anywhere else in Thailand...

    Thailand with a non-diver. HELP!

Actually if you dive with Aqua vision in Krabi, they run all of their dive tours by speedboat, leaving at 8:00am and returning around 1:00-2:30pm depending on the dive sites and number of dives.

Recommended dive center @ Ao Nang, Krabi.

Try Aqua Vision, they have speedboats that go to all of the above, or Raya Diver do a big boat trip to Ko Ha every Monday...

How much for PADI open water in Thailand

As mentioned previously there are different factors which affect the prices of PADI Courses and diving in general, mainly distance to dive site and type of boat - (longtail, day boat or speedboat), but also the type of course. PADI is generally a little more than SSI - you might need to do a bit...

    Buying equipment on Koh Tao?

The only way you'll get cheap gear in Thailand is if you get a huge discount from the Dive Center where you do your course. I'm not familiar with equipment prices in Canada, but I'd imagine that they're similar to Us which makes it a LOT cheaper than buying in Thailand. Same goes for decent...

    Tech sites around Thailand?

Krabi has the deepest cave dives in south east Asia (possibly the world?) at Sra Keow Caves near Ban Naisa in Ao Nang. To the north is the Khao Sok national park which has many caves in the worlds oldest evergreen forest. Do a search for Bruce Konefe Krabi, to find out more about the actual...

Trip Report: My Experience in a Koh Tao Diving Factory

If it had happened a week ago I would have. As I have no recent personal experience of the dive center in question, only reports from other divers, I don't feel I have time or inclination to deal with the inevitable backlash.

Trip Report: My Experience in a Koh Tao Diving Factory

@FunRecDiver Thanks for posting what to me seems a perfectly fair and unbiased report about your experiences. I'd just like to add now that the exchange of viewpoints seems to be drawing to a close, that your recent experience and mine of a decade ago are almost identical. I originally came to...

    Attention Thailand dive operators

In response to a private message I received asking that dive centers should "clearly state their overarching guidelines and policies toward customer service that differentiates them from others" I would like to state that Aqua Visions Policy for customer satisfaction follows the principal that...

    Attention Thailand dive operators

Sorry to hear you had a bad experience diving with whoever it was in Thailand, but can I suggest you name names rather than make comments like "Dive Operators in Thailand" which pretty much drags the whole of Thailand into disrepute. If you have a problem with certain individuals or dive...

Koh Tao - Dive center and DM courses

Ko Tao is a very small Island with a lot of dive shops, so you don't need to make any decision up front based on either info you've Googled or recommendations you've heard from other divers or from forums. Go to Ko Tao, walk round the island and visit all the dive centers (it will take you no...

Late February - Similans or Koh Tao?

To cut a long story short Similans 90% - Ko Tao 10%. But as you've already done Similans I'd recommend this trip for good possibility of Whale Sharks and Mantas... 20th February - 2 Day 2 Night Hin Daeng / Hin Muang Trip departs: Saturday 20th February, 8PM. Trip returns: Monday 22nd...

Prime Dive Seasons - East Coast / West Coast what?

I agree with Lord Khram, but am admittedly biased. The one thing I would advise is ignore the weather forecast from Google, Yahoo, BBC etc, they are nearly always wrong. June is definitely getting into the wet season in the Andaman, but that doesn't mean that it will rain everyday or that their...

A little story about the Bowmouth Guitarfish (Rhina ancylostoma)

Nice one. I've been diving in Thailand for 11 amazing years now and have still never seen one in the water. Unfortunately I do see them all the time on the displays of all the Seafood restaurants, along with baby blacktips, horse shoe crabs, and lots of other stuff I'd like to see on a dive...

    Dive sites suggestions

Between February and March I'd recommend the Andaman Sea, Krabi in particular. Conditions are fantastic and there are many options for diving - local islands, phi phi national park, shark point / king cruiser / Anemone Reef, Hin Daeng & Hin Muang, Ko Ha Yai Caverns... In Ao Nang most of the dive...
