Pirate Lady (Bahamas) Ran Aground Today

An update on the Pirate's Lady- it is with heavy hearts that we must announce that the lovely Lady was not salvageable. It was a tough decision but one we had to make. She will rest in her beloved Bahamas forever more. Thanks for all the well wishes, it has meant so much to the crew and our...

Pirate Lady (Bahamas) Ran Aground Today

The Morning Star got the passengers off the Pirate’s Lady and was going to take them to Nassau, but the Carib Dancer needed to go to Nassau to drop off someone who required medical help. They graciously offered to take most of the Morning Star passengers. Two remained on the Morning...

Pirate Lady (Bahamas) Ran Aground Today

To all our Blackbeard's Family, just wanted you to all know that yesterday was a tough day for the Pirate's Lady. While navigating a cut, the steering went out and they were pushed into the rocks of the islands. Everyone is safe- the guests were all taken back to Nassau and are diving with...

    Nekton boats may come back!!

Let me clear up a few things as far as cost of having a boat leave out of the US. The cost of insurance is the same. Our cost for inspection & registration of the Aqua Cat, a boat of similar size to the Nekton run between $15,000 & $20,000 per year. I believe Nekton paid under $2,000 per...

whale sharks ON AQUA CAT CRUISES?

About 10 years ago we had whale sharks on 11 of 13 trips from February to May, unfortunately I was on one of the 2 that didn't see them. That was unusual though, most years they are only seen once or twice. Pilot whales are resident in Exumas Sound and we see them 5 or 6 times a year. During...

Moore's Island, Hole In The Wall?

Mores Island is about 5 nm up on the bank so nothing but sand around it but there is diving along from the barrier reef to the dropoff from Mcleans Town to the Southwest tip of Abaco. We haven't been to Hole in the Wall though.

Bahamas liveaboards and the effect of lionfish

One of our dive sites, the Lost Blue Hole, was the location of the 1st lionfish in the Bahamas. Between August, 2005 and January 2006 the number of lionfish there went from none to 30 and the small fish & cruatacean population disappeared completely. The site had always had large schools of...

Bahamas liveaboards and the effect of lionfish

We have a permit from fisheries to collect lionfish for research along with Stuart Coves. Fisheries has been asked to allow spearing of lionfish on scuba by dive operators, but I'm not sure if they have authorized it. I was told they had, but I haven't seen anything from them. Bruce

Bahamas liveaboards and the effect of lionfish

I just got off one of our trips to Bimini where we made it south to Orange Cay and east to the Gingerbreads. Lionfish were seen on less then half the dives. We only had two dives where more then one was seen and on one of these they all turned into sushi. The only dive where large numbers...

Bahamas liveaboards and the effect of lionfish

I spent a year collecting and observing lionfish for some NOAA studies on them. I believe they will have a major affect on fish in the Caribbean but at this time there is only a few spots that has actually happened. Of all our dive sites, we only one where they have had any affect and that is...
