Ditch analog pressure gauge for Suunto D9?

The safest way is to use both the transmitter and the analog gauge, as a wireless link is way more prone to fail than a simple analog gauge. Just make sure your regulator has two HP ports. If your regulator has only one HP port, and you don't wanna change it, buy only the D9. Buy the transmitter...

New computer features you'd like to see

The VR3 has this feature and you can also upload books (.txt files) to read during shallow deco stops.

    Breathing Techniques and Air Consumption

You should always avoid shallow breathing as it leads to CO2 buildup, which other than giving you annoying headaches, increases inert gas narcosis and even has some more serious effects on higher doses. If in order to control your buoyancy you feel you cannot deep breath, adjust your weight. A...

carbon monoxide in tanks - cozumel

Even though I'm enjoying the discussion about the CO analyzer... I'm kindda skeptic that this really happen the way it was depicted by the OP. Maybe it's just me, but it's difficult to not question the post trueness when the very first post of someone is a bashing one... If I'm wrong, I...

    Accomplishments of 2009?

In 2009: Got IANTD Trimix certified. Did some really interesting dives on the 180-300 ft range, but not as much I wished, though. :( 2010: Buy my dry suit and dive a lot more than I dove in 2009. Red sea is on the top of the list. No big training plans for 2010, but I'm flexible on that...

    Proper rate of descent?

It will increase your respiration rate regardless, maybe not as much but it will. Even during normal conditions our respiration ration increases during the descent, doesn’t it? The respiration rate may increase because you're afraid (in case the rapidly ascend was not intended) or because...

    Proper rate of descent?

IMHO, CO2 build up is the main concern here. An uncontrolled rate of descent can led divers into rapid breathing that causes CO2 levels to increase. CO2 buildup is accepted in the literature as one of the factors that can intensify narcosis and O2 toxicity.

    Scuba Equations

For Haldane type models, you will need to solve for each compartment (or tissue) the differential equation: dP/dt = K*(Pa-P), where Pa is the alveolar pressure of the inert gas and P is the inert gas pressure in the compartment on a given time. K is a constant that depends on the specific...

Galileo Sol VS Suunto D9 VS Others Which one ????

Have you looked the NHeO from VR Technologies? It's like the VRX but with less functions (i.e. no VGM model)... and cheaper too. I used to have a D9 and I loved it, but it flooded after 3 years of use (about 1 after the last service) . At about the same time this happened I started on the Tech...

    Suunto D9 issues

I bought my D9 in 2005, changed the battery in 2006 (together with the software recall) and 18 months after that (around 50 dives or so) it went completely dead, as per the repair guy comments it flooded. Basically, fixing my old one would cost as much as a new one… so I bought a VR3 and I’ve...

    Dengue Fever

I guess the doctors have already looked this, but there is Dengue Fever and Hemorrhagic Dengue (or DHF), which makes the normal dengue looks like a simple cold. Was she tested for DHF? As for vaccines, dengue is caused by a virus (actually, four)... so, don't expect one soon.

    Tech Computer advice.

Like DA Aquasmaters pointed out, different computers have different algorithms and for that reason will result in different deco profiles... So, depending on the computer you buy, you might be the only one with a 20 min deco stop at 20ft when everybody else in the group (assuming you're not...

    Diving to cure DCS

IWR is definitely not a good idea for OW divers, but it does have its niche: If you're in a very remote location, no ways to contact DAN or other type of support and/or treatment, IWR is definitely an option. Nevertheless, you cannot do it on your own; you will need TRAINED SUPPORT divers...

Are dive computers overkill for most recreational divers?

    I couldn't agree more.

Are dive computers overkill for most recreational divers?

NDL refers to the limit of time you can stay in a certain depth without the need for decompression stop (deco stops), the decompression will (in theory) occur naturally on your way to the surface if you respect this limit... That’s why AquaPixie said, and I agree, that all dives are...

Attention manufacturers: This is what a dive computer should be like in 2009!

You have a good point, I used to have a D9 and I thought it was so cool, until I found out about the VR3 HD....... :depressed:

Attention manufacturers: This is what a dive computer should be like in 2009!

Well, one could argue that ZH-L8+ is not a state-of-the-art model... it's an 8-compartment modified Bühlmann model to account for some other factors like temperature, deep stops... etc. Not newer as bubble based models like VPM or RGBM (as newer Suuntos) for instance. As a matter of fact, ZH-L8...

Attention manufacturers: This is what a dive computer should be like in 2009!

What do you see in this computer that it's better than - VR3: VR3 and VR2 Dive computer from Delta P Technology - VRX: VRx Home - LiquidVision X1: Liquivision X1 - OSTC - HeinrichsWeikamp GbR ? These dive computers are targeting the Tech community indeed, but they are in the same price...
