    Unanticipated hazards

Not that it's relevant, but we met through an unrelated group in Shanghai several years ago. Afaik he started diving shortly after. He's actually a great guy, very friendly, but again - any kind of fun has its place. Personally, I hope that this is a good lesson learned, and will let it at...

    Unanticipated hazards

Ugh, I know the guy that did this. (Which just shows how small our world is). Weird, but not entirely out of character - he is a funny guy that way (but that's definitely very poor judgement)

    Computer question

I don't dive often enough to justify an expense of another computer. Just curious as to what the options are "in the unlikely event" :)

    Computer question

I am planning my first liveaboard (only about 3 days). Have a question I could not find a definite answer to. What happens if my computer breaks down during the trip? Let's say on the very first day of diving. Do I have to wait 24 hours from the last dive? Start using tables? :)

Is there an April thread yet?

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound like anything newer divers should get into (nor like much fun, but that might just be me)

Is there an April thread yet?

Oh well, was just curious. I've been to Cozumel twice before and both times currents were ripping and, frankly, diving was not fun at all. Really hope for the best this time - fingers crossed. Newer diver will probably sit it out unless we can get a pretty definitive answer before committing to...

Is there an April thread yet?

There in 10 days. Have a newer diver with me who isn't sure how much to dive if at all. How are the Cozumel currents now?

    Soft weights

This is a classified - but I hope mods let it stay here for a bit (I'll delete it by Monday). Moving in a week, and have a few soft led shot weights that are too heavy to take with me. Not used much (may be a dozen dives), look pretty much new. 2 of 2lbs 2 of 3 lbs 2 of 4 lbs $3 per lbs or $50...

Certification for junior diver in DC/NoVA area

Would anyone have recommendations for a dive shop/school to do theory and pool (and referral to a warmer place :) ) for a junior diver (for OW)? I would like to find a place that has experience teaching younger divers. Any input would be appreciated!

    Russian honeymooner missing - Thailand

Virtually all diving is in small groups (if you pick a right dive shop, you could be one on one with your dive guide). Russian-led dive shops seem to be quite busy, so "1 on 1" is unlikely, you would most likely see a group of 4-5 divers with a guide. There is probably not a whole lot of "buddy...

    Russian honeymooner missing - Thailand

    1. Karen Gapoyan is an Armenian male name. He must be of Armenian descent and a Russian citizen. 2. Thailand is currently one of the top destinations for Russian tourists. Because of that, dive boats routinely carry about 50% Russian speakers. Most dive guides on these boats are Russian too. So...

    Accident on Spiegel Grove today

Spiegel is fine - during the same time a few 100 people (including myself) dove it without incident. Sometimes bad things happen. Occasionally with a short interval. I am sure there were other incidents during the same general period of time in Fl. Keys.

    Soaking quick disconnect AI computer

Called Oceanic. Glenn(?) from tech support to my question of whether it is safe to soak/immerse computer and HP hose separately said "no problem, shouldn't hurt it at all". I wish he gave more information, but I guess that'll do. So presumably Oceanic qd is safe. Whew.

    Soaking quick disconnect AI computer

Manual for the computer that came with a purchase did not cover the quick disconnect. Even though "factory installed", it is a separate item. However, it also occurred to me that there may be a separate quick disconnect manual, so I looked it up. Lo-and-behold, there was one. There are no...

    Soaking quick disconnect AI computer

Guess I should check with Oceanic, then.

    Soaking quick disconnect AI computer

Can AI computerwith quick disconnect and the regulator be soaked separately, i.e. disconnected? Would there be anything preventing water from entering either computer or HP hose, causing damage? Apologies if this was discussed, I could not find an answer.

    custom wet suit

I'll add my vote for Wetwear. I could not find a suit to fit me - everything was either too wide, or too short etc. They made one that fits like a glove (for a lack of less abused term). It feels great, and for the price it really wasn't even a whole lot more expensive than a good quality "off...
