This is a solution looking for a problem. In other words, no.
1) If your buddy doesn't know how to use their computer, stop diving with them. Problem solved.
2) Requiring all dive computer manufacturers to have the same alarms doesn't make sense. If you go down that road, then let's just...
I trained for AN/DP with Duane Johnson (ppodiver on here - www.precisiondiving.com) and would highly recommend him. Great skills in the water, he sets the example of how one should dive at the tec level, fantastic presentations and the ability to deliver in a way the student needs to see to be...
Have fun Jody! There is just so much to do both above and below the water in Hawaii!! I really hope you contact Gabe - he will get you on some rad dives!
In May, 2011 my wife and I met a diving buddy in Hawaii for a diving vacation. First on our agenda was to call Gabe at Kaimana Divers (808-772-1795) to set us up with some great diving. We lined up the 10-dive package with him and got our gear ready.
On 05/16/11 we met Gabe at the dive boat...

This Cobra was purchased in 2002 and has a Suunto compass and has been on about 120 dives. It has a newer battery showing almost full strength. Few minor scratches but in very good condition.
I moved in to tec diving and got a different computer, but otherwise I have really liked this...
I use a food-grade UV protectant spray. They have it at the dive shops - used for cleaning and protecting dive gear. I like that it puts moisture back int the latex seals instead of drying them out like talc does.
For my OW cert I called nearly every shop around the Seattle area, and went in to most of them. I was looking for the most for my money - most class time, most pool dives, etc. From there I talked to the employees and instructors in the shops and picked the one I felt I got along with the best...
I love my AL LEgend regs. They really shine below 100 feet. Air delivery is effortless and you can't overbreathe them.
That being said, I bought them in 2002 to replace a set of regs from 1987. Even the shop said there was very little difference in the regs. I can tell the new ALs breathe...
I agree you will want to work on that before your trip. I had a similar issue with a USDivers inflator. Disassembly was easy and finding the problem was a snap.
The inflator was getting "stickier" over time. At first it was barely noticable, then it would take longer to rebound and stop...
Can you mimic "NetFlix" and have a rotating, subscription-based model? Like for $20 a month you can rent, renturn, and get another DVD, up to 3x/month...
My diving DVD libary if full of DVDs I watched only once or twice and have memorized.
