    Lobster bites diver?

Sounds infected and in need of medical attention. Even a Caribbean hospital will be preferable to no medical treatment.

Private Boat diving - correct "flagging"

Most states have absolutely no requirements for boating licenses or even simple boater education courses. The only requirement is the financial ability to be afford to be running the boat

    Nitrox for beginners

A couple of interesting thoughts I've seen expressed in this thread. I'm one of those divers that doesn't notice a difference in post dive fatigue between diving air or nitrox. Could be that it simple doesn't make an obvious difference to my body, or perhaps since I"m extending my NDL limits by...

    Two New York City fish....

The first one is a Banded Rudder Fish. Very similar in look with a pilot fish, and therefore often confused with them. The eel, as already noted, could be either an American or a Conger. Would need to see the size and fins to properly ID. However, the offshore location is more suggestive of a...

    Wife is a diabetic

Sounds familiar :D I blamed the frequent bathroom trips on the diruetic part of my BP meds, and the constant thirst on the combination of peeing a lot and working in a building with dry air. Little did I know till I got the flu and went to the doc for the first time in several years. That's...

    Unidentified Fish

There is a lot of variation, and overlap of that variation, in the coloration of those particular species to make that distinction alone somewhat difficult to use for identification purposes. Would take getting hands on the actual specimen to sort out the meristics.

    Wife is a diabetic

Hasn't happened yet, and I hope it doesn't. Typically it's only considered a danger if you don't eat and drink, or don't eat and do strenuous exercise, so is easily avoidable with just a little bit of thought. However, I do have a friend over on the ADA's message board on Met that does...

    Unidentified Fish

For more likely to be a color phase of a Graysby or a juvenile Goliath Grouper.

New perspective on the oil spill

The big trick is not what large adult critters got killed, but larval fish, shellfish and planktonic life got killed. This is stuff you will not see watching up, but will be a large loss to the fisheries affected. For example, it's possible to have lost entire year classes of some fish such as...

    Wife is a diabetic

This is true at the start of the disease, before the BG hits levels that gets us diagnosed. Typically by the time we get diagnosed, it's because all that overproducing of insulin to overcome the insulin resistance has caused the pancreas to start burning out and not producing so much insulin...

    Tourniquet discussion

In any first aid course I've taken that covers tourniquet use, it's always been a last resort of "life or limb".

    Strange noise?

Check your o-rings, could be a damaged one letting a small bit of air past.

    Deflation in the Scuba Market

So, either the SCUBA industry needs to figure out how to get more people earning enough money to have that sort of disposable income, or is SCUBA supposed to be a sport for only the rich? BTW, even if I could afford a Rolex, I couldn't justify spending that sort of money just for a watch...

    What is this

Looks to be a porites sp. of coral. AKA finger coral as Sully3 called it ;)

    Shears Vs Knife

You should give it a try. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised how well it actually works ;) My Rescue instructor had us try cutting line underwater with both a knife and shears. The shears worked much easier than the knife, and my knife is always sharp. After that exercise I now always...

    Can someone identify this FISH?

Those keeled scales along the tail are an important clue that it is a member of the Jack family or a close relative. Beyond that, a much better picture is indeed needed for more than speculation.

    Am I being silly?

Any cruise I've been on, they've chartered one of the local dive ops.

Mustache causing a slow leak in mask...

That area of the forehead is still nice and wrinkle free :D I can actually feel the water leaking past the mustache. Plus when I remember to trim that little bit, the leak goes away ;) Since I'm also generally looking down at the various life on the bottom, the whole skirt is the high side, kind...

    Something stung my dive buddy?

I don't think that research ever got published. Lack of toxins doesn't make much of a paper when your a toxicologist ;)
