    Blue/Purple Invertebrate or Plant?

I took this photo of a bright blue branched plant or animal on the West Side of Santa Catalina Island in about 35 FSW with a water temp of about 64F. The color balance should be right because the surrounding reference species are the correct color. Is it animal or vegetable? I have been looking...

    Cold Water Bryozoan?

Thanks, Bill That was my tentative ID, but I have only just recently taken an interest in bryozoans, so I was unsure. The older I get, the more I like subjects that don't run away.

    Yellow Organism at Anacapa

Thanks, Max. I thought they might be eggs, but I had never seen them before. I got this shot and another shot of another cluster that had them in the background and slightly out of focus. I can add this notch to my stock. Thanks again. Jack

    Yellow Organism at Anacapa

I photographed this yellow mass of vaguely lanceolate organisms at Tres Miguels dive site, Anacapa Island, California in about 35 FSW. Water temp was 57 degrees in a Kelp forest. I have searched the net, but have no idea what it is. Could it be an egg mass of some kind? Thanks for your help.

    Unknown Shrimp?

I looked at all of the decorator crabs that I have in my books and it seemed like the body shape was too elongated to be one of them. Nonetheless, if the crab was doing a lot of add-ons, like a balcony, a patio, and a storage shed, maybe it could be a longer shape. Thanks, Rick.

    Unknown Shrimp?

At Eagle Reefs, off Santa Catalina Island, on May 4th, 2011, at about 30 FSW, Water Temp 62 degrees F, perched on a Southern Sea Palm, this is either one of the trickiest pieces of debris I have ever seen, or some kind of tiny shrimp. It was 5 centimeters or less long. Does anybody have any idea...

    Yellow Sponge or Egg Mass?

Thanks. I didn't see any Peltodoris nobilis on my dives that day, but I have seen a lot of them lately everywhere from sandy bottoms in Newport Beach to rocky outcrops at Long Point. They seem to be pretty ubiquitous.

    Yellow Sponge or Egg Mass?

I took this shot at Anacapa Island last Saturday on the backside at the sea lion colony. It was in about 25 feet of water and attached to a large rock. Is it a type of sponge, or is it an egg mass. I am told that someone else saw the same thing at Point Dume on the same day. It was about 4...

    White Blob Organism

I thought it could be a tunicate or perhaps a sponge. I am not good at identifying those. Thanks.

    White Blob Organism

This white organism was on the west side of a rock pillar at about 35 feet, 52 degree water at Long Point, Palos Verdes, California. Can anyone tell me what it is? Thanks.

    marine snail id

Thanks, Max: I had considered that possibility in light of BubbleTrubbles' reply. I appreciate your confirmation.

    marine snail id

There were plenty of Kellet's Whelks around, but they don't have those distinctive knobs on the pointed end of the shell.

    marine snail id

Snapped this fellow at Long Point, Palos Verdes, CA, about 35 feet, water temp 52 degrees, on Jan 12th. Seems to be a marine snail, but I couldn't find it in any of my books or on line. Anyone have an ID?

    Casino Point Egg ID Request

I found these eggs in several spots in Casino Point on Saturday, May 29th, in depths from 25 to 70 feet. I asked some other divers what kind of eggs they were and one person suggested Wavy Turban Snail eggs. The first picture has brown speckles on the eggs and the second has a dark spot at...

    What kind of snail?

I don't know why I wrote "operculum" when I meant "shell" and the 24 hours to edit had passed when I realized it. Additionally, due to the shape of the shell and the color and texture of the foot, it is probably a Blue-ring Top Snail, Calliostoma annulatum. I finally found a picture that showed...

    What kind of snail?

This photo was taken in Casino Point Dive Park, Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California, in about 30 FSW. What kind of snail is it. The operculum is encrusted with growth, so it is difficult to determine color and pattern.

    Olympus trays

Have you purchased the Olympus PTBK-E02 bracket already? Even the Olympus representative that I spoke with did not recommend it because there are better alternatives available from other accessory manufacturers. It is too heavy and the dedicated upper bracket that Olympus made for it is not...

    TTL Cables for PT-E05 Housing

Thanks, Jack. I thought it was probably instruction manual overkill, but when I couldn't find anything about it or an instruction manual for the UFL-2 on line, I was a little concerned. It seems like one has to buy every little extra piece for the stuff we get these days. I am trying to buy all...
