1st Stage Reg Service - LDS Ploy?

I bought the gauge brand new, but I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't accurate. I don't have a second IP gauge to verify. The only reason I bought it was to test a different 1st stage (a Sherwood Magnum) I bought off of eBay. Since I had it out, I was curious what my SR1 would read. I tested...

1st Stage Reg Service - LDS Ploy?

I purchased it April 2009. I have about 50 dives on it. I tested it with a IP gauge for the first time, about a month ago and it read high. It may have been high the entire time I've owned it, but I'll never know. But since then, I put over 6 hours of bottom time on it with no issues.

1st Stage Reg Service - LDS Ploy?

I really like my 2nd stage and wanted to keep it for a couple of reasons: 1.) I have two other 1st stages, so I can transfer it if a diving opportunity popped up. Also, the owner isn't known for his speed. If he sits on it for a month, it's not that big of a deal. 2.) The 2nd stage works...

    Sherwood SR1

I've had mine freeflow a couple of times, but a quick adjustment on the 2nd stage performance knob works wonders. I never leave it in the max position. It will freeflow if held upside down in any water temp in the max position. After my water entry, I generally go from the hardest setting and...

1st Stage Reg Service - LDS Ploy?

I have a Sherwood SR1 and having a problem with the 1st stage. The IP measures around 170PSI, yet everything seems to be working fine. I figured today would be a good day to drop the first stage off for servicing. I removed all the hoses and equipment, and plugged all the holes. Since...

    New tank owners' guide...

Don't store steel tanks wet with the boots on. When I return from a dive, I pull the boots off and wipe down the tank as best I can. I leave the boot off for a day to dry off. Once dry, I put them back on and store up-right. The water stuck in the boots can lead to corrosion.

Solo diving and back-zip dry suit?

Thanks everyone for your responses. I did figure out how to zip it up myself. Two nights ago I tried the truck tailgate handle on my Ford explorer, but the handle was too low. Instead I just used my hands. If the zipper was outside my shoulders, I'd grab the sleeve of the suit with the same-side...

Solo diving and back-zip dry suit?

Does anyone have any good suggestions on how to zip up a back-zip dry suit by yourself without ruining the suit? Dragging the wife along just to suit me up and having her sit in the car while I dive doesn't seem to be a good option. My next dry suit will definitely be a front zip.

    Caney Lakes, North Louisiana

Has anyone dove Upper Caney Lake and/or Caney Lakes (32.66830, -93.29634) which is just north of Minden, LA? I've heard rumors that it was clear, but haven't been able to find anything. Not to be confused with Caney Creek lake south of I-20.

    Dry Glove Questions

Has anyone tried this? Put on regular knit 5 figured glove (one of those one-size fits most), put a rubber glove over that, and then put on a drysuit with normal latex wrist seals ensuring the seals go over the cuff of the rubber glove. I've never tried it, but it seems like a workable idea.

    First doubles dive today

I bought my Ford Explorer for only $780. 40K miles latter and $1,300 in replacement parts over the course of 3 years didn't make it that bad of an expense. I didn't buy it for diving, but it makes for a good bench to get ready for diving.

Neck Seal Leak vertical looking down

I had this same problem. I didn't think of it as a big deal since water wasn't getting in. Instead, I came to think that maybe my suit wasn't designed to have that much air in it. I made me realize that I may have been over-weighted. I ended up dropped 8lbs of lead and the problem was...

Safe way to "De-smell-ify" a Dry suit

Last weekend I went diving, and the air temp was about 98 with a heat index of about 105. Surface temps where around 91-92 degs F. For undergarments, I downgraded to a thin sweat shirt and sweat pants so I wouldn't over heat too much. At depth, the temps drop to the 60s so things were feeling...

    Dumb Newbie Question About Fins

I use the inserts to hold open my gloves, dive boots, or hood when they're wet. It allows better air flow and helps them dry faster.

    Dumb Newbie Question About Fins

True story. Somehow an interesting argument between my wife and I started up during a long care ride early in our marriage. Wife to me: "Harry!! You always win every fight." me to wife: "No I don't" Wife to me: "YES YOU DO!!" ....... So who wins that argument?

    Drysuit Cert vs. AOW

Dry suits are hard, and I'm still trying master mine. Messing around with the dry suit during AOW could be a huge distraction for you if your new at it. Also, AOW doesn't need to be taken right away. I just finished my AOW, and I would probably gotten more out of it if I just had a bit more...

    Which certification?

I didn't learn the tables until I took my Nitrox course. I'm glad I did. Before, all I knew was the eRDP. I have found that tables are so much easier and faster to use. As for computers, I just use my computer as depth gauge, bottom timer, and an ascent meter. I use a sensus ultra as a...
