Troop 188 had four scouts and one adult go with members from another troop to Sea Base in the Florida Keys for a week of diving. All had a wonderful time and brought back lots of great pictures. Way to go Scouts!
Troop 188 has three more OW Divers! Three scouts completed their Open Water Class, Pool and Open Water training this last weekend. They all did well. Two will be going on a Sea Base SCUBA Trek with two other scouts from the troop who certified last year. We have now had 25 Scouts and two...
Uninformed boaters are not just in Florida. Several years ago a did a couple of dives in Lake Geneva WI. Now first, to even be allowed to dive in Lake Geneva you have to read and sign a Divers Rule pamphlet that outlines all of the things you can and can't do as a diver and how you are to do...
Well, it's March in Chicago so not a lot of diving happening here. That does not mean we aren't thinking about it! Our Troop currently has three SCUBA outings planned over the summer. We have an OW Certification outing scheduled for July with three youth and one adult going, a Sea Base SCUBA...
Dear Peter, I like so many never met Lynne in person but because of her kindness and ecceptance of others she made a great many of us feel very welcome in this sport and part of her "inner circle" which was everyone. I know that you are still grieving and that is to be expected. I do want you to...
Devils Lake is north of Madison about a 1 hour Drive. There is no support as far as Dive Shops anymore although some shops still do their training there. A nice place to dive. Not deep, typical dive depths are about 25-35 feet. My favorite is "The Rocks" on the North East corner of the lake. Viz...
Troop 188 had two scouts, two siblings and three adults go diving on Septmenber 13 at Haigh Quarry near Kanakee IL. The group got two dives in and had a great time practicing their skills. A shout out to Tina Haigh for having such a top notch facility for us to go to and to John and Kim Zalewski...
Troop 188 has two new Open Water Divers as of this last weekend. We also had two siblings get their OW Cert as well. All did very well and are super stoked about diving and can't wait for our September outing to a local quarry. :D
Hey, I have an acquaintance who would like to learn to dive. He is in good condition with no known health issues except he has a stint in one of the arteries to his heart. He had the stint implanted when he was very young to correct a birth defect. He is now in his mid teens, is active...
Boy Scout Troop 188 did a DSD March 23 at Loves Park SCUBA. We had six youth and four adults. Two of the adults are already Certified Divers, just went along to get wet. Everyone had a great time. I hope we get a couple of these guys excited enough to get their Open Water Cert. :D
Does the SDI online Nitrox course cover the use of tables and formulas for Nitrox diving or is it strictly computers? I want to dive Nitrox but do not own a dive computer nor do I see myself buying one in the near future. Thanks in advance for your responses.
Unfortunately I will miss the Our World Under Water Show this year. I thought I would try the Ghost Ships Festival in Milwaukee but don't know much about it. The WEB site seems pretty vague. Anyone go to this? Is it any good?
I have been to Haigh Quarry several times over the past few years. Really a good place to get wet. As Diver Beth mentioned on the shallow side there is the Rock Crusher, two Rock Drills, an oil tank, and a horse carriage (falling apart now) and lots of fish! I was there July 8. and was diving...
Used the basic snorkel package for years, rented everything else. Finally decided to buy my own wet suit this winter so went to my LDS to see what he had. Turns out he had just bought out the inventory of two Dive Shops that had gone out of business so had a ton of used, one off, or off brand...
Boy Scout Troop/Venturing Crew 188 had two adults and two youth go diving at Haigh Quarry today. Got in two dives. Wonderful day, great weather and everyone had a good time. :D
I have been diving in Lake Geneva. Not the best experience I ever had. There is a LOT of boat traffic and they don't seem to know what a dive flag means (the boaters like to use your dive flag as a mooring!). You will need to use a boat as all of the land around the lake is privately owned...
