Putting my toe in the water

I snorkelled for years (was on medication which was a no-no for scuba), this stopped and I did a "discover scuba". It made. It so much easier to watch the fish, previously I had to go and look, now I go down, stay still and the fish wander past!

How many times a year you are going to scuba diving?

Retired, 3 x 2 week trips to Tenerife each year, with 1 dive each day. Planning to do a sidemount course next week ( in Tenerife). The mind is willing but the body and the pension place the limits.

Gear too heavy to walk on boat/climb ladder

I am 82 and going to do a Sidemount class this month, to see if the system will help my dodgy right knee. (Wear and tear). I also ask (and pay) for help with my tank.

How many of you have had a dive computer fail?

As a purely rec. diver I had a Suunto Gekko fail after 150 dives. Screen went blank ( it was not the battery). Completed dive and dumped it! (I knew depth, time, plan, deco., site).

the most surprised you've been on a dive

Descending a wall looking in all the nooks and crannies, my buddy started pointing down. I realised what he was pointing to when I touched a stingray! I shot up 3 feet and it swam away calmly.

    Dive Insurance

I use Aqua-med, reasonable worldwide annual policy. Only contacted once ( bitten on temple by turtle), immediate agreement to cover all costs ( no excess! ). In fact covered by EHIC card.

    Has anybody ever done this?

This is what got me into Scuba from Snorkelling, on my DSD I found it was easy to just stay still (near the bottom), and watch the fish swim past me. Much easier, and more successful than snorkelling!

    Checking your buddy's gas

There is always a Dive briefing, which includes gas planning and a reminder on signals to be used, (100bar. etc). Edit I am rec. and often dive with instabuddies.

Did you do a Discover Scuba?

Did a DSD off the beach (where I had regularly snorkelled), I was amazed that the fish just swam past me, while just floating there. The next holiday I did my PADI OW. nd as they say "the rest is history".

I was bitten on the temple by a turtle in Tenerife. It felt like a punch, so I took the next day off ( apart from having a tetanus booster).
