    Scubaboard Surge 2017 Central

Or, Cuba, anyone for a road trip the week prior? I've been GCC at least 6 times..and although I'd miss Singh's Roti, the idea of going to Cuba while it's still relatively pristine is sorta appealing. And you know what's sorta funny? My Avitar is from the rock garden at Little Cayman Beach Resort :)

    Scubaboard Surge 2017 Central

Me! Me! Me! I want a single room. I will be calling Bay in the morning (I was assumed everything was sold out). And probably adding a week on GC on at the beginning of the trip. Anyone need a dive partner? Nitrox, AOW, 50sih dives, competent diver (former collegiate swimmer) who is very safety...

Why is Little Cayman diving better than Grand Cayman?

Couldn't agree more. In 6 dives, IIRC, I saw 4 black tipped reef sharks and probably 6 turtles. And the reefs are in great shape. I'm hooked.

What is the the best (affordable) Dive Computer

Eh...I think you can learn most of the (what you want) by reading the threads here. I specifically wanted a Suunto because it is conservative. And I didn't want AI (too expensive, too risky IMHO) and I am pretty sure I will never do technical diving (since I hate cold water)...so I didn't need...

    contacts vs prescription goggles

I wear disposables, since I find my eyes tend to dry out with the wind from the boat. I also wear full coverage (cycling) sunglasses to keep the wind off my eyes (with clear or yellow lenses on cloudy days). I agree with having a spare set on the boat with you...and since they are disposable, I...

    Skills

I agree with PJ absolutely. A lot of us live in areas of the US with 4 seasons...and I have no desire to jump into 60 degree water for diving (I spent most of my youth, teenage and young adult years freezing my tail off at 5am so that I could get in my car to drive to a cold pool at 6am, no...

What is the the best (affordable) Dive Computer

Jim, for the first time in 3+ years on this board, I beg to differ with you...and I'll tell you why. My first buy was a snorkel, fins, and mask. Was debating on which to buy next, the computer or BCD. Of course, an opportunity for a last minute trip to GC arrived, so I went to GC on rental...

Also, be careful about glass houses. Everyone had terrible trim, sucked down a lot of air, and invariably kicked up silt or hit a reef at one point in their career. It's called being a novice. And some folks will always be novices...they do it as a hobby...just like most of us will never drive...

Diving Similans in March - Thailand Unrest

How are you getting to Phuket? Seems like the majority of the issues are in Bangkok proper, and if you are flying into Bangkok, there is a potential for some issue. The international airport (Suvarnabhumi) is pretty divorced from downtown (it's a solid 1 hour drive) but if you flying NokAir from...

Grand Cayman vs Little Cayman vs Provo for mixed group?

Little Cayman (and Cayman Brac) are great if you want to 'desert isle' type experience...truly just diving and hanging out. And the diving is great. You can get around the groceries by either bringing food, or if you have a layover in GC (a lot of flights come in around 2, but the Cayman Airways...

Grand Cayman vs Little Cayman vs Provo for mixed group?

On GC, I really like the East End/Northside. Starting from Ocean Frontiers (just south of Gun Bay) to Cayman Kai public beach (west of Old Man Bay), there are some very nice houses for rent...big ones that will fit a group your size. You won't find a Seven Mile beach type in this section of GC...

    Southern Belize Needs Your Help!

I am absolutely sick about this. I was certified as a SCUBA diver at Splash (before Ralph bought them). Placencia will always hold a special place in my heart....an honest fishing village that welcomes and embraces sustainable tourism. What life should be. I come for the atmosphere and local...

Running console line under BCD hipbelt. Yay or Nay?

All, great ideas here. I actually want to keep the console. I run dual computers on arm and console(I am an IT professional, after all) and like having the pressure and computer both at a single glance. And no way am I ceding air reading to electronics....too important IMHO to leave to prone to...

    Time between 130-foot dives?

Tphelps, did you read the original post? The OP is asking questions to write a fictional book, not undertake the dive himself :diver: Dark, is there a reason that safe is so big? Might be cool to have 2 separate 'actions' going on at once...can they get the the safe up via mechanical means...

Where to go for 3-4 weeks of diving and AOW cert?

Thailand is incredibly cheap once you actually get there. Food is very cheap, and you can find cheap lodging if you look hard enough. And, you can use pubic transport to get around and try different locales if you'd like. I spent a month there last year and was never bored. Plus, the culture...

Running console line under BCD hipbelt. Yay or Nay?

Hi all... Female n00b diver really trying to focus on improving my trim and making sure I don't damage anything underwater. Even with a lanyard, my console drags around more than I would like. Several times, I've threaded my console line under my BCD's hipbelt. Doesn't seem to affect the...

Good location & techniques to get comfortable with drift diving

Thanks guys....hear what you are saying. Dennis, are there other, less crowded places in the Caribbean that you'd recommend with generally light drift diving so that I can get comfortable with it? Any suggestions? I am one of those people that wants to start 'preparing' for whatever can...

    Worried about diving again

Finner, first off, I am sorry this happened to you. Secondly, although I haven't had the same experience, I faced a similar fear returning to diving after a pretty good DCS hit and a 6 hour ride in a Chamber about 3 years ago. Given that I am someone who spent their entire summers in the water...

Good location & techniques to get comfortable with drift diving

Hi all... I'm a new-ish diver (~50 dives) looking to branch out from my normal Cayman Islands divefest and would like to explore the world (and find more 'fish soup'). However, I understand that a lot of the better dive locations (particularly in the Pacific, such as Maldives) have drift...

    Recommend a LOB for Similans

I really liked Scubacat...fits your description of their ops to a T. Kat and her crew were great. The northern Similains had much better reef and fish life, IMHO. Go for a 7 day trip (combine their 3 and 4 day trips) and you won't be disappointed.
