Scubapro DIN conversion kits: 200 vs 300

I was diving 300 bar cylinders in Norway for many years. And yes, I was pumping those cylinders up to 300 bars. Among fellow divers it was roughly 50/50 split between 200 and 300 bar. Twinsets were usually 200, singles 300. But all rental cylinders I have seen in Norway and a few other European...

Retraction System - Hollis C45 LX Dual Wing

It's late in the discussion but as anybody addressed the OP question so far: I have never seen this particular wing, but from experience with retraction system in Apeks wings I would say just pull the ends of the bungee and tie new knots. Distribute the stretch manually over the full length of...

Anyone with experience on the Mares XR BP/W?

I don't have one but an instructor from our local shop has. It is a well used setup, obviously he's been using it for long time. When I asked him how it is he replied: "Fantastic!". The wing looks really streamlined. I couldn't believe it was over 30lb lift. He also sports two of the Mares agir...

Apeks WTX-D40 wing on Hollis SS backplate

This is a FYI post - Apeks WTX-D40 wing on Hollis SS backplate without STA. Before buying the wing I was trying to no avail find any info if the slots match or not. There was only one way to be sure... so I bought the wing and the short answer is: No, as expected they don't. Long answer is...

    Review Seaskin Nova drysuit

In my opinion the quick neck is the way to go, but the rings will be in your way and something to get used to. Plus your BCD straps may press on the neck ring digging it into your shoulders making surface walks very uncomfortable. Said that, the ability to easily replace the seals - priceless.

Why 2 buckles on waist belt?

Yes, of course! Me stupid. Thanks!

Why 2 buckles on waist belt?

OK, sorry for this probably stupid question, but it drives me nuts: Why does the diver on this video from AGIR have two buckles on her waist strap? Is it an extension or what? The twin buckle config is visible between 0:40 and 1:01 min.

    Washing neoprene 5mm semi-dry wetsuit in washing-machine.

I did it to a wetsuit. 3 times. Worked like a charm twice. After third wash... and a professional and costly repair I never attempted time 4.

    Seeking BP/W Guidance

I have just, like yesterday received 'Paragon Weight System - Drop Down, Small' from SubGravity. These packets look very well made and hold exactly as much led as I need. I think they are the same as Halcyon weight system. Be careful with fixing a lot of led permanently to the plate. The whole...

    UV Dive light

I am sorry for bringing this old thread back from the abyss. I am 'researching' options for fluoro dives and am looking for answer to a question: Do the UV light works reasonably well? I mean the 395 nm 'black light' which doesn't require yellow mask filter. There is heaps of info over the net...

    Jacket style BC buoyancy characteristics

It varies a lot, but IMHO they are mostly positive between 0.5kg - 1, maybe 1.5kg (approx. 1 - 2lb, maybe 3lb). There are some neutral, but I have never seen one being negative by itself. Generally speaking the more sophisticated it looks the more inherent buoyancy I would expect.

Failure of back-plate single tank adapter (Bolts)

Yep. Heaps important no to dive with loose nuts:D. Alternatively, to do so must be a fully a conscious decision ;)

Failure of back-plate single tank adapter (Bolts)

In my opinion the direct cause of this incident was both wingnuts unscrewing and dropping of the bolts. Most likely they were not screwed tightly on the mandatory spring washer. Vibration of a motorboat can do real magic to loose bolts. Good all ended OK and the only harm was the embarrassment...

Yet another: Which 38-40lb wing to buy

Hi Guys, I am really sorry for yet another 'which one to buy' thread. I need a 38-40lb single tank wing. My choice is quite limited - I am in Australia. Importing stuff from US or Europe is simply speaking not feasible. My choices are roughly limited to Apeks WTX-D40 or Hollis S38 LX. Halcyon...

Sharkskin chillproof under membrane drysuit in 19C water - what can I expect?

It's not exactly relevant but my wife was wearing her sharkskin under 5mm drysuit in watertemps between 3.5 and 15 C. And she liked it. Divetimes around 60 minutes, depths up to 20m. That was the same sharkskin she dove as the only protection in GBR, AU before we overshot and moved far too far...

Anyone using a ScubaPro Mk 17 and a Galileo Sol/Luna/Smart Tec transmitter? Fit question.

Of course it fits: BTW, I had no idea I should call my Sol vintage...

    MK17 Evo with transmitter

I think, the spacing between ports stays as it was, only the angles changed. PS Thanks!

    MK17 Evo with transmitter

At least old style Scubapro transmitter fits into old style MK17 (not Evo). It slightly interferes with the oversized Scubapro hose protectors in the nearby LP ports, but no dramas.

    Review Seaskin Nova drysuit

In my opinion it's all compromises: Either you have a snug fit with light undies or good maneuverability with thick ones. Best to have two suits, or three . Similar like with your normal clothing. Of course squeeze adds to the problem. As does type of the suit. My old suit is the greatest...
