    Bubbles Up

My wife and I are experienced divers, and like others been deeper, but it was a good dive. Not sure I would do a 55 mile boat trip for it though. We were on the Aggressor so made it easy. Not sure I would suggest it for inexperienced divers just a matter of whether they have experienced deep...

What About Caneel Bay St John

If you are talking about the dive operator working out of Caneel Bay Resort (may not even be there anymore as it was a few years ago), I wouldn't recommend them. Would suggest Low Key or Cruz Bay Watersports. Both were decent when my wife and I were there.

    Diving at Grand Cayman

Ditto on DiveTech... would also recommend if you get a chance go with Ocean Frontiers at the East end of the island. They will pick you up for a 2 tank morning dive. Diving is better in their area. Although the ride to the boat is alot shorter using DiveTech versus the 45 minutes to Ocean...

    Dominican Republic?

My wife and I ended up spending a week in DR for basically the same reason... We could fly non-stop from Boston, stay a week in DR, then head to Curacao non-stop for another week, then to Cayman's (yah was an awesome dive trip and DR was virtually for free the way the flights worked out). We...

Tips on diving the Spiegel Grove?

I haven't dove the ship since it has been righted either. If I remember correctly it is about 130 feet to the bottom. 32% Nitrox would be good, if you don't plan on going to the bottom. Since it is righted there probably won't be much reason to although I did love the view looking up at the...

Cod Hole in late June/Early July - What to wear

My wife and I were there last year at that time and the temperature was upper 70's. I picked up a 5mm full suit for myself and a 7/5mm for my wife. For 90% of the dives my 3mm would have been fine. My wife loved the extra warmth as she gets cold easy. To be safe I'd suggest the 5mm. Kev

    Cairns in June

My wife and I were in Cairns the last week of June/first couple of July last year. Dove for a week on the Tusa Spirit of Freedom. Had a great time. You can find water temp info in my old trip report. Also suggest doing the Coral Sea trip, much better vis and diving! Also note that if you...

Belize tour of Mayan sites, Recommendations?

We were in Tikal last November taking a day trip from Belize City. The local airlines do the tours which are the same ones that the tour operators offer. Well worth the trip. Some photo's of San Pedro and Tikal are at http://www.pbase.com/bridgenet click on the Belize picture for the...

Haven't been trolling the board for a couple of weeks and come back and there is some life here :). caymaniac: Yup, wife got to swim with the Minke's, I took a couple of pics. They were awesome, just wish they stuck around while diving. Had fun taking pics underwater using our own gear...

To lock or not to lock...

We've had our tie wraps cut a couple of times and received the flyer but never any sticker across the bag openning. Thing that is the pits is with the tie wrap removed the zipper can open on large dufflebags. All they do is zip it back up. So far lucky but on long overseas flights with many...

To lock or not to lock...

If you lock it and check it your probably asking for trouble and they may not put it on the plane or they will break your lock. TSA has openned our dive luggage a number of times. One bag contained BCD's, batteries, spare regs, knives, wrenches, etc... 65#, left that alone. Other bag was...

    Where to go in Jan/Feb

For a new diver I would have to agree on Bonaire, next choice would be Curacao which is next door. Bonaire has much better shore diving and my wife and I enjoyed it much more. Grand Cayman, not as pretty, reef is not as healthy. Wall diving may not be for new divers and Bonaire/Curacao...

    Seeking Advice

I just went through the same problem of what to do. I probably have about $10K in len's and digital equipment for my digital Fuji S2 DSLR. Started with the Nikon D100 but ended up with the S2 for various reasons not relevant here. Initialially I bought the DSLR for diving, after I got use to...

    Bikini Atoll - trip/tech report

My wife and I traveled to Australia last month lugging along our cameras and dive gear. One thing to watch out for is some airlines are starting to weigh the carry on and Quantus for one limits it to 7kg/bag (15 lbs), along with the normal size limitations. Enforcement depends on the agent but...

Tusa Spirt of Freedom July Trip Report...

Part 2: Cod Hole/Coral Sea Trip Dive Log: Me – 5 mm full suit, 3 mm full would have probably been fine as well. Rentals were available but would recommend bringing your own as they looked a bit used. Wife – 7/5 full suit with hoodie and gloves (she tends to get cold even in the...
