Its legal to have the valves that are deep (300 bar ) on any tank here. In NA the service pressure of a valve is dictated by the burst disk. We do not even have 300bar tanks here. And its common to have shallow (200 bar) valves on 232 bar tanks (called HP here)
Derek what is included into 800? is a lot of money for a used reg. If spend some time on facebook marketplace and ebay uk/it/de you can find a good scubapro set for way less. The last rigs I got were in a range of 260CAD (cosmetics on then second stage) for 2 stages and 450 for 3 stages 2018...
I would at least do a vis and rebuild the valve with the fresh lube and orings if you had air or 32 on it. If it has trimix I would check the o2 and he content and compare with the label to make sure the gas is ok then dive it and then vis and rebuild the valve.
For our conditions I would go for mk17/mk19 or equivalent H50. Both G250V/Halo and G260 would work well. Apeks are also great regs you cannot go wrong with them and all these they can be serviced locally with no issues.

If you can afford it go MK19Evo/G260 due to the turret on MK19, next for me would be MK17/G260 then H50(same as mk17) with Halo and them Apeks.
