    CMAS Quo Vadis?

In this case it would be quite easy. CMAS standards are minimum standards, binding for all national CMAS federations. The national federations can exceed them, but they can´t go below. The requirements for CMAS 1 Star Diver are clearly defined by CMAS: One Star Diver Training Programme There is...

    CMAS Quo Vadis?

That would mean that option 2 is applicable. And while CMAS obviously is tolerating it, EUF and RSTC are asked to react. CMAS is linked to RSTC at least through some of their member federations. Anyway, in this case FFESSM 1Star Diver is not compatible with EN14153-2/ISO 24801-1 Part 2...

    CMAS Quo Vadis?

This is not a question, but a case I want to bring to public attention and discussion. Mainly I would like to address the instructors from the various CMAS member associations, because they all are probably affected by this case and should knock at the doors of their board members and ask for...

Appropriate No of Logged dives to become a DM/instructor

I can't comprehend your conclusion. I say at most, no matter where the agencies are setting the bar, the market regulates itself what is accepted and what not. And what is below the bar for the market, is just making money for the agencies and for fun for the customers but of no real worth.

Appropriate No of Logged dives to become a DM/instructor

This can not be answered so. You'd have to carry out a study with two comparison groups and then see if there are significant differences. But IMHO someone with a reasonable number of dives and - as mentioned before - with a wide range of experience, is much better prepared to respond to a...

Appropriate No of Logged dives to become a DM/instructor

Meanwhile I am working for 7 years as a full time instructor in the mediterranean area, mostly in Turkey - and yes, here it is nearly impossible to get a job in a reputable dive center as a DM and much less as an instructor, without the experience of a few hundred dives. I know dive center...

Appropriate No of Logged dives to become a DM/instructor

John, I wonder a little bit to read that post from you. I think we both know that being a DM or an instructor means more than knowing what is in the books and having demonstrated the appropriate skills. If you reduce it just to that, than you may be true that the number of dives doesn't matter...

    PADI Rescue Diver question

Interesting that nobody mentioned the IMHO most interesting way of teaching the Emergency Oxgene Provider course. It's in combination with Rescue. If you do it that way it counts for Rescue Exercise No.9. So as an instructor I can sell two courses instead of one, safe a lot of instruction time...

    PADI E-Learning

It's the same for all courses. Generally eRecords verify requirements met and expire within one year.

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

Sorry, now I got it! Why didn't you clarify from the very beginning that you just want to state your personal opinion and that you don't want to discuss it, because your own opinion is already the only opinion of relevance for you? Ok, I do you the favour and step out here. It already wouldn't...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

DevonDiver, I forgot, I would like to recommend you an article from 4th edition Tech Diving Mag Tech Diving Mag | Free online technical diving magazine . It's "An anatomy of a diving lawsuit", written by Bret Gilliam. It is not about Rec or Tec Deco, but it is a lot about responsibility for...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

I understand, so all these people worldwide, conducting and teaching Rec Deco are newbies without any experience, who don't know what they are doing? Yes, I know from many threads here on SB - only your point of view is relevant, everything else is irrelevant. In legal terms it might be...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

Come down, back to earth with your feet!!! That is your personal view. Don't you think that all the agencies which are teaching Rec Deco consider their programs being safe and prudent?:headscratch: And in fact these dives are done to thousends every year worldwide with a signifcant low number...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

What has that to do with the question Rec or Tec? Fact is they do it as Rec, no matter if they do it on entry level or on instructor level.

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

The major difference between PADI, SSI e.a. and CMAS is that the CMAS federations work with real decompression tables from the very beginning on (i.e. several European federations use the Deco2000, the French use MN90) and they teach their entry level students how to use them. And from the...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

Nice calculations, fits perfect in your picture of the world. There is only one thing I don't understand, in numerous threads here on SB you are firing against PADI, but now they are the standard for all others??? Furthermore I can't verify your numbers because I don't find a "club finder" on...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

I didn't say how they teach it, but fact is they do it and they start on the entry level with theory and from 2* level on they start with practice. So you just confirmed what I said. Your arrogance towards everything which doesn't fit in your picture of the world is remarkable, but it's not...

Article: Technical versus Recreational Scuba Diving: Why is there a need for Limitations?

For example CMAS is teaching decompression diving from 1* diver level on. For CMAS 2 and 3* divers decompression dives are normal recreational dives. For example in France, where tight links exist between the government and the local CMAS federation FFESSM, the maximum depth limit for 3* divers...
