I wasn't sure anybody was going this weekend so I booked some dives with the Scubateer this Saturday. They might be able to squeeze you in $49 two tanks. Looks like fun.
I would like to dive Vista Point this Saturday 05/16/09, I am a new diver and have never dove Vista Point so I hope that is ok. I would also be up for 05/23/09 as well.
Let me know when and where.
Thanks,
Neil
A little update... I got my Advanced Open Water certification this weekend. I had a different instructor (not by choice, that's how it worked out), they were awesome. I also did the Peak Performance Buoyancy specialty which I learned a lot from.
I had the same equipment as last time and...
1. I am not going to go there.
2. In the pool I had 26lbs on and doing the fin pivots reasonably well, maybe a little heavy. I was also wearing a 3mm wetsuit, no hood and no gloves in the pool. At the lake I had 30lbs, 7mm wetsuit, hood and gloves. The added weight I was told was to...
I really appreciate all of the comments and feedback. I do understand that I was overweight and understand the importance of buoyancy control.
Keep in mind, this was my second dive.....ever. I had very little control over the amount of weight I used, I left it up to the instructor who knew...
I'm sure there is a level of risk in any manuver like this, for example what if I couldn't find my way back to the line, I could find myself halfway across the lake. With regards to removing the BCD, could/should you put it back on over your shoulders after turning it upside down?
As I stated previously, I don't blame the instructor, they were chasing another student who freaked out and was ascending to rapidly. They signalled for the rest of us to surface, but the valve was already stuck open.
I don't think it is impractical for an Open Water student to remove the BCD...
I didn't really think about how the wetsuit affects buoyancy. I was wearing a 7mm wetsuit in about 54 degrees Fahrenheit fresh water. Yes I was at Lake Pleasant, I found it more fun than I expected (which was a murky old lake). The BC valve that failed was the top one over my right shoulder...
gcbryan and RAWalker raise an interesting point. If one needs to drop weight I would have thought it would be better to drop them at the bottom if on the bottom for two reasons:
1) So you don't drop it on someone's head
2) Why swim to the surface with weight you intend to drop?
This may be a...
When I quoted my "Swim" I was really crawling along the bottom. Initially I tried to swim up, it seemed to difficult with the weights.
I did notice that the buddy system wasn't in full swing and didn't think much of it, I certainly had a change of mind.
I was using a Sherwood BCD (not sure of...
I'm new to diving and new to the board as you will soon see. I just completed my open water certification and yes, I already have an "incident".
I was on my second dive for my certification, swimming along at 50 feet and the pressure relief valve on my BCD let go, wide open. I inflated my...
