How long to wait after breaking a collarbone?

So I broke my collarbone about two weeks ago, and I have/(had?) a dive trip planned for the end of October. Doctor's prognosis is 4-6 week recovery, so the trip is right on the outside of that window. It's warm water (no wetsuit needed), so I'd only need a couple of pounds of weight (maybe...

    Diving with a missing toenail?

So, I lost a toenail a few months back (thanks to some a-hole who slammed a pool gate without looking). The whole nail fell out and hasn't started to come back in. The thing is I have a use-it-or-lose-it dive trip coming up, and I want to know what precautions or care instructions I should...

    Bahamas, Ambergris Caye or Roatan?

I'm look at Mata Rock on Ambergris Caye or Las Rocas on Roatan. Las Rocas is on the southwestern tip of the island, near The Swash. As I said, my time line is late Feb/early March

    Bahamas, Ambergris Caye or Roatan?

I'm planning my first full-on dive vacation, and I'm stuck trying to choose between the Bahamas (Blackbeard's), or staying at a dive hotel/resort on either Roatan or Ambergris Caye. I've already made hotel choices for each destination price-wise they're all pretty similar, including airfare, so...

    Leaky Reg?

yeah the boat had a compressor so they fill re-fill tanks during surface intervals, which I suppose would explain a hot tank on the second dive, but that being said the air temp was mid-60's and it was overcast, but that wouldn't explain the first dive. I didn't see bubbles, but that only means...

    Leaky Reg?

So on a recent dive trip, I noticed after I turned opened the tank valve to check to see how much air the boat's crew put in the tank, and then closed the valve, the pressure in my reg setup dropped ~50 PSI per second. On both dives, after a 1-minute paddle out from the boat to the drop line...

DC1000 - using flashlight as strobe substitute (for the time being)

yeah, well, that particular point was in cozumel, at the yucab and tormentos sites. so keeping the hand on the inflator hose was not to maintain a constant bouyancy but as an emergency measure in case i was getting too close to the corals for (their) comfort. shouldn't be much of a problem...

DC1000 - using flashlight as strobe substitute (for the time being)

well, what i do know about the light is that it's 2 watts... not sure how much that translates to underwater... as to picture quality, granted it's no SLR, but if you can manage to get within 2' of the subject (not easy to do fighting currents in Cozumel), the pictures do turn out pretty...

DC1000 - using flashlight as strobe substitute (for the time being)

I've been focusing on getting more essential dive equipment (reg, gauges, bcd, and camera (duh)) recently and so i don't yet have the money to get a flash for my DC1000. i've heard rumors on various product reviews that a simple $30 underwater flashlight can act as a flash up to about 4' away...

    SeaLife Dc1000 or Sea & Sea 1200HD

frankpro1: though i can't exactly speak to a definite time limit, i can tell you that the Sea&Sea definitely has a double-whammy flaw in it's design as you mentioned. electronics run on high/low signals. anything above 1.5 volts is considered "high". this means that the sea&sea battery only...
