1 week in Bahamas - where to spend it?

Hi - just posting on behalf of my sister in law. She's booked to do a week on the Aquacat in a few months time and is looking to tag an extra week of holiday either before or after the liveaboard. I've done a different liveaboard and also spent a week in Nassau - but can't give her much advice...

    Experiences at the Blue Hole

I did the blue hole a couple months ago - also with Turneffe. An interesting diversion from the coral we had been used to - but nothing too much more than that. Something different and I defy anyone getting back onto the boat to say they want to go and do it again straight away! Sadly didn't see...

    Turneffe Island Resort

Yes - I'm sure it was $5 US for a beer. Not so sure about soft drinks :D. Though as Downing states - if you were happy not to have anything fizzy, free soft drinks of some description were pretty much available at any time - mostly iced tea or lemon drink. Oh, coffee or tea brought to your front...

Nassau: Orange Hill Inn and Stuarts Cove

Hiya - At S.C. everything goes with you onto the boat - bag and all. And as I remember, wetsuits didn't go on until we'd got on the boat. The boats aren't overcrowded and will be a plenty safe environment for you and your gear. The bit that makes you wonder how everyone and their correct gear...

Nassau: Orange Hill Inn and Stuarts Cove

Joe - my wife and I stayed at Orange Hill and did some diving both at Stuart Coves and Bahama Divers (not certain its still called that - they are in downtown Nassau). To try to help with some of your questions and give some advice from someone who has been there; 1/. Not certain on this...

    Trip report – 2w liveaboard Maldives on the Dhinasha – 26 October – 9 November 2010

Fantastic pics. I often think maldives is underated or even unknown as far as many of the US divers (I've ever met) which is a real shame. I try to tell them - but I think they are too spoilt with having the caribbean so close to them. Looks like a fantastic trip.

    Belize in January

Anywhere really decent (lighthouse / Turneffe / etc) will all be covered in your Peter Hughes itinery. If you do fix yourself up with a trip, I almost promise you, that halfway through the week on the boat you'll be saying to yourself - 'why did I bother'. If you are going to do something - then...

    Best snorkeling from shore?

I did some snorkelling at Turneffe (last day) and quite enjoyed it. Perhaps like any other week, our group was very friendly and I always got talking to the snorkellers and was keen to hear what they had been seeing. They all loved the snorkelling available there and were occasionally seeing...

    Turneffe Island Resort

Christian, Yes and yes! The week previous to TIR we had spent chilling out in Placencia. A very nice place but perhaps too far from the barrier reef to be of huge interest outside of whale shark season (ie snapper mating). We knew we would be diving ourselves silly during the following week so...

    Turneffe Island Resort

My wife and I spent last week at TIR and were exceptionally pleased with the place and the diving on offer. Especially so, considering the battering hurricane Richard gave the place. Getting there is easy enough and they will collect you from either of the Belize City airports. It's then a...

Maldives land based diving in December

I stayed at Kuredu earlier this year for a week, followed by a week on a Peter Hughes liveaboard. My strong suspicion is that you simply cannot go wrong. I've no real idea what atol Kuredu was on (you could check - they have their own webiste) but the place was stunning and the diving even more...

    diving Nassau

This was a pic I took while on one of the Stuart dives. Whether right wrong (feeding) it certainly generates some appreciation for Sharks. I could never hurt one now.

    diving Nassau

Greg - I know you probably don't want to hear this but Nassau isn't the place to be doing any truly special diving. I've been with Bahama Divers and Stuart Cove. You've mentioned about not being in large groups etc - this is pretty much the case with Stuart C. However - these are still the...

    Bahamas- Carribean Explorer II

Yup - been on this one. In a word, it was fun. Fun on board and fun diving. Boat - nothing special. Functional and well equipped. Little hot sometimes up in the dining / living room - but all in all the boat fits the bill. Probably the highest entry point (giant stride) I've ever made in...

    accommodation options - 31.12.10 !

    > Cracer - not at all! In fact I now am also really looking forward to your post on Turneffe. I'll be there (albeit TIR - not Flats) in a couple of weeks now and hope that you can post your report before then! Really excited about our stay at Turneffe and am very interested to hear how the...

    accommodation options - 31.12.10 !

Cheers Guys! I've emailed her all the options so far and will let her make her own mind up. Really appreciated. Downing - absolutely loving those photos! Nothing like giving her all the options! Even though she'll be in the life of luxury for a week with Peter Hughes - the rest of her holiday...

    accommodation options - 31.12.10 !

hiya - thanks for that. I was hoping I could get away with a 3mm as the 5 takes up so much more space in the case! Yup - the Radisson was the one PH suggested but its quite a lot more than my sis' in law was hoping to spend. Had a look at the Great House also. Folks - we need to be thinking...
