    DiveHaven resort

Not surprised. I think SB definitely dodged a bullet when they had to cancel their shindig there due to covid. It had disaster written all over it.

Blackbird Caye resort vs Turneff Island resort

If you would be bored in Ambergris, you'd probably be really bored at one of the resorts out on the atoll. Not much to do there besides eat, sleep and dive. Not even television. Just hanging in paradise. If your or your brother are looking for other things to do besides dive, consider...

Recommendations for Belize Trip- Diver and Non Diver

I realize I'm late to this thread, but life got in the way for a while there. TIR is great but since you used the word "budget" I doubt that's an option for you. Great place. Very expensive. Most divers go to Ambergris Caye. Lots of options there. Although I've been to Belize a bunch, I've...

Yep, seeking advice for Belize in October

Turns out I may not be doing any diving this trip. My best buddy in Belize is actually going to be in Canada in October, and the trip would just not be the same without seeing him. So we're probably going to divert to Merida, Mexico, where we want to investigate the possibility of buying a...

Asking for Turneffe dive resort recomendations

James, you might want to consider starting a new thread detailing your experience there. Frankly, I'm not surprised. ScubaBoard actually signed up to have their annual shindig there a few years ago. It was very controversial at the time with a number of members saying this resort was not...

Yep, seeking advice for Belize in October

I've been to both Tikal and Xunantunich and although they're very different I really enjoyed both. Our guide for Tikal turned out to be a total nutbag conspiracy theory type. Although entertaining, I wasn't sure I could trust anything he had to say about Tikal. At Xunantunich, the first time...

Nobody? Fine. I'll come back in October and answer my own question, lol.

Yep, seeking advice for Belize in October

As many of you know who frequent this board even infrequently, I've been to Belize many times. But always in the summer. This year, for a number of reasons having to do with global forces all the way down to family matters, it's going to be October. Any significant difference besides the risk...

Placencia diving as prelude to Belize Aggressor

Good on you for spending some time in Belize City. Most folks go way out their way to avoid it altogether. BZ City has some interesting sites to check out. You just have to be careful and under no circumstances venture forth at night. ATM is right off the highway to San Ignacio. You'll see...

Placencia diving as prelude to Belize Aggressor

Hey Haiawata, Sorry for the delay. I didn't see your PM/Post until this afternoon when I got off work. To answer your questions: I stay with some friends in Placencia, so I'm afraid I'm not much help there. However, there are a ton of places to stay starting with cabanas on the beach all...

Noticeable Difference In Mosquitoes Between These Resorts?

No. They stayed outside, thankfully. I've been to Belize many times. Mosquitos on the beach never gave me any problems. They can sometimes be an issue in the jungle, however. They were especially bad at Altun-Ha when I was there. Still, I'll take a mosquito over a sand flea bite any day.

Noticeable Difference In Mosquitoes Between These Resorts?

I haven't stayed at any of the three resorts you listed. But my wife and I did stay at Turneffe Island Resort twice for a total of three weeks and it's very close to Blackbird so maybe this will help. Like Blackbird, TIR is right on the beach. The wind was near constant and strong. No issues...

As of 4/1/22 No More Mask Mandate nor Curfew

I just received a promotional email from the San Ignacio Hotel advising that as of April 1st the mask mandate has been lifted. Yay! You will need to provide proof of vaccination at the airport. For the party crowd, all bars, nightclubs and restaurants are allowed to operate as normal. (Must...

    Belize Diving Services

Do you know who started the business? Years ago, there was a frequent poster here named Peter, a British ex-pat living in San Pedro. He was a trimix instructor and had formerly owned a dive shop that I think was also located in San Pedro. I'm wondering if he had any connection to BDS. Back...

Belize City by cruiseship, any shop recommendations?

My first time in Belize, I was staying at The Great House in Belize City while waiting for the Turneffe Island Lodge, now Turneffe Island Resort, transport boat to the island. That morning, I wandered down to the area of "Tourism Village" and saw a coffee stand right across the street from the...

Looking forward to Belize next month

Placencia Car Rental is another possibility. They have an office both at the airport and in, wait for it, Placencia, lol. They would probably be willing to drop off a vehicle in Hopkins or you could catch a cab there for maybe $15 or $20. But obviously Hopkins Car Rental would be easier and...

Looking forward to Belize next month

Like Hank said, there's ton to see and do while based in Hopkins. There's zip lining just across the highway a little to the south. Not my thing but for some reason unbeknownst to me other people seem to like it. A little further to the south the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary And Jaguar...

    Hamanasi Resort to Turneffe

Well, I haven't driven in the DR, Greece or Spain, but I imagine that it must be easier. It really is just as easy as driving in the United States. Maybe even easier because there are practically no traffic cops in the entire country but there are sometimes military checkpoints. Driving...
