    Long hose without can light

I use a 5' hose and route it under my right arm. It works with or without light. For me it's fine for open water since I don't see the necessity of a 7' or 8' hose when not in cave (not that I do cave diving).

    Nitrox certification benefits?

Hi 616fun, I'm not telling that people should dive nitrox in dives to 25' because it is necessary. I'm just saying that your body would absorb less nitrogen and your body will have less decompression stress. That's why I wrote that it's the better choice. If it is gonna make that much of a...

    Nitrox certification benefits?

even if you dive nitrox but as you had air you will feel better after the dive with the nitrox. Because your body will not be tired as it would be with air. Take the extra NDL time to aside, just for knowing that nitrox is better for your body makes it a better choice.

    Piston or Diaphragm

Hi, I'm not familiar with the SP5 but I know the SP MKII. The internal pressure is always 140psi above the ambient pressure and not absolut. Through the little holes water comes in at different depths with different pressures and helps to build up greater intermediate pressures at depth. A...

Who Uses their SMB and Deploys it At Depth Before Ascending to the surface

On most dive boats I know in Europe the SMB is an emergency signal unless it's mentioned in briefing that it is something else, like a practice or it's mandotary because of drift dive etc. So I always deploy mine if it's already known by the crew/captain.

    Rate of bladder inflation

maybe this is a good topic to ask why would you want/need a "power" inflator rather than a slow one. My new inflators are much slower than previous one and I'm happy with that. I think in a stuck inflator situation slow inflator would give you more time to get the control over than a fast one...

Argon bottle regulator. How simple is too simple?

so, you are against all the so called "argon regulators" with unseald piston design. Is there anyone who took such a reg to ice diving or really cold water and had problems? Does anyone know if there a significant difference in these regulators to my MK2?

Argon bottle regulator. How simple is too simple?

Hello, I have done a few dives with my small argon bottle already. I used to use my apeks ds4 as a regulator because I had one extra. Now I'm gonna use the ds4 as a stage regulator. While I was looking at the argon regulators at the market I noticed that they are all unbalanced piston regs. I...

    Oxygen Exposure Limits

you have to keep in mind that these percentages are just numbers. It's not like you're fine at 99% and you die when you reach 100% I think many agencies advise that you have to calculate with toxicating above 75-80% of cns. On the other hand you could be fine with 200% as well. It can be 150min...

    Console vs Wrist?

go for wrist. I have a simple reason for it. Your hand will be free. You always have to use your hand to take and look at the console. You can use your wrist computer while holding something else, like a light.

    Buying Used Regs

get it serviced, it will be like new. Physical damage like cracks on the body should be noticed by the serviced if they're exist. Everything else will be changed or repaired anyway.

Can this break a 1st stage?

you can't be sure if your first stage is OK unless you get it serviced. In colder waters a water in the first stage means you can end up with freezing inside your first stage very easily. if it's salt water or pool water with chlor in it it could damage the internal parts.

    which computer?

zoop doesn't have the gauge mode. you can use puck as a bottom timer. Other than than the Puck has backlight. some of the suuntos (if not all of them) doesn't allow you to change mode in 24 hours after a dive. So if you've done a air dive in air mode you can't change it to nitrox mode. But you...

What do Safe Divers do that Unsafe Divers don't?

for me a safe diver is a person who knows that he always has another chance to dive even if he says no to a perticular dive.
