Cheapest Diving in the World (Caribbean Sea)

Sounds like a great deal. What dive center offers this unlimited multi-pass dive? 4-5 dives a day sounds like a lot though.

Cheapest Diving in the World (Caribbean Sea)

That might be the case, we were already in Guatemala and just hopped across the border (well, it was an 10 hour journey), so couldn't comment on flight prices. Diving at Dalton's (and probably some other places too) includes free accomodation, so it's hard to beat for people on a tighter budget...

Cheapest Diving in the World (Caribbean Sea)

There are loads of options there. We staid at Alton's Dive Center and just across there is a grill house that is open 3 days a week and according to our DM's they had the best food in Utila and we'd have to agree. On the same road, within 5-10 minutes walk there were plenty of option from more...

Cheapest Diving in the World (Caribbean Sea)

Amazing aquatic life on Utila in Honduras! Utila is one of the Bay Islands, in the mesmerizing Caribbean Sea. It is famous for its diving and it is famous for being one of the cheapest places to dive in the world. Beautiful underwater landscapes, amazing sea life AND great adventures. We spent...

How has the internet affected diving? Good/bad or both?

I started diving 18-19 years ago. For me the internet has been a great source and big improvement to the old days. I started off when diving was still very macho and you had to be a tough cookie to go diving. A lot of disinformation, bad advice, chest-thumping idiots, etc. It has improved the...

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

I might be returning back to Tulum in a while. Does anyone have any good recommendations for other cenotes to dive or any good operators down there?

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

Enlighten me then? The way I see it, is I'm going there to get cave trained. If I'm not mistaken you're limited to the 1/6 gas rule for cave 1 (and usually for other first cave certs as well), usually no 'restrictions' where you have to swim single file, etc. As there are so many caves to...

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

Thanks for the input wet, but I'll have to agree with the others that, given my limited knowledge about the caves in Mexico, I find your advice misguiding. I'm pretty sure there are plenty of caves in Mexico that are very well suited to do cave training in backmount. Telling me I shouldn't do my...

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

I'll most likely want to do it in Mexico. Nice weather, good logistics, very beautiful caves. Other option would be Lot, France, which is just a few hours drive away.

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

I'm not sure if I'm following you. Could you explain?

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

Thanks for that contribution Kevin. What worries me more is the lack of ethics on the QA board of IANTD and that they actually condone these kind of practices (since it wasn't considered as a breach).

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

Thanks a lot for your insights guys. Really good input there. I was already quite convinced on the GUE path. I dont't have any problem with the standardization part. I dive a DIR-ish set-up anyway (give or take a few details - I still have the bases on my tanks, blasphemy ;). It does make a lot...

Cave training - GUE vs. TDI/IANTD (or other)

Hey guys, I'm looking into doing cave training (after diving the cenotes in Mexico, see my thread We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED) I've been doing quite a bit of research and have some remaining questions on the agencies in specific. I'm well aware of the importance of the...

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

Haha, I love cookies! But I prefer the edible kind. Most of my gear is pretty cave compliant as I dive a DIR(ish) set-up. I'll have to get bigger doubles though. And a reel. I looked into cave training, but it looks like that is going to cost me and arm and a leg haha. I'm already trying to...

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

Hah nice! We have some great wreck diving here in Belgium. I've even been diving an intact U-boat that sits in 40m. Getting tech certified is a great way to lear' more about diving and advance your skills!

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

Wow, that's crappy. So far I'm still fine, luckily. Oh that's great. Do you guys live in Belgium or visit regularly? Thanks for the tips, I'll have a look around. We found a highly recommended op for Utila in Honduras on here. Their standard is 60min dives and pride on it. Still a bit short to...

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

Why is that, any interesting story behind it? Both routes are very nice, so you could just do 1 dive at the barbie line. You can combine it with a dive at another cenote like 'El Pit', which is supposed to be very nice as well. On our list for the next time we get there.

Nice! Any good recommendations for dive ops on Cozumel? Wasn't overly happy with the one we used.

Trip Report We did our first cenote dives and we're HOOKED

We went diving in the cenotes in Tulum and it was really marvelous. The views are indescribable - You have to see this for yourself! Our favourite cenote was Dos Ojos (see attached pîcture). We went diving with Tulum Scuba and can highly recommend them. In total we did four dives in three...

    Pulau Weh

Hi, Next month my girlfriend and I were planning on going diving on Pulau Weh (West Indonesia). We've heard that there has been quite some coral bleaching the last few months and that it's not really worth it anymore. Has anyone been there the last few months who can provide some insight? What...
