Cozumel Dive Ops - Five Star IDCs vs Forum Recommendations

Don't forget to check the link I provided in previous post. There are a lot of ops on Cozumel that don't have a dive shop. They will meet you when you arrive on the island and provide what you need to know at that time. That's how I did it the first time I went to Coz.

Cozumel Dive Ops - Five Star IDCs vs Forum Recommendations

I think it's a great idea to take the course at home from a local dive shop. I wouldn't worry too much about the agency - PADI, SSI, etc... - what you want or hope for is a good instructor. I enjoyed being able to take the class at my LDS over several weeks where I got to know the people from...

    St. Croix dive buddies 4/8 - 4/12/24?

In 1 week you can experience some pretty good dives/sites. From Christiansted, there are sights that have walls and submarine canyons. I would suggest a trip to Frederiksted, on the west side (about a 30-35 minute drive) to dive the reefs/wrecks, and if not for those, at least for the pier. One...

Question Cozumel Dive Shop for Group Wanting to be Certified

First time hearing of this op. Can you fill in some particulars that their website doesn't address, such as where divers meet for pickup, do they pick up at other piers, does the dive rate include tax or marine park fee, where surface interval is done, and any other particulars you think...

Question Do you prefer someone help you set up your gear, or do you prefer setting up by yourself?

I don't need help, but: If the dive op either takes my gear ahead of the first dive or keeps my gear for multiple days of diving, I'm okay that they set up as much as they can. I have to attach my computer (a console) so I check everything anyway. In rare cases when I've carried my gear onto...

    Traveling on a budget

From some of the things I read throughout the thread - new diver, costs, 7 days, wrecks, things to do for non-diving wives, dive buddy to travel with, warm saltwater - I will give my 2 cents. 1. You're a new diver (or are going to be one) - others have suggested getting AOW and nitrox but I...

    Trip planning advice

Villa Aldora is about an 8-10 minute walk to Puerto de Abrigo. At least one op leaves from there - Salty Endeavors - others may also. I'm providing a link to my spreadsheet that may provide some helpful info. Dive ops by jonhall Someone mentioned fast boats from Aldora - although I have no...

Can I use my 11 year old wetsuit?

Purchased a Henderson 3mm in June of 2008 and first used in on my 11th dive in St. Croix - only wore it ~70 dives (not a lot) last using it at the end of March 2022. The knee pads were starting to separate a little from the neoprene and I had some ravelings at a few seams, but over 14 years it...

    Dive Operator Recommendations (Cozumel)

I have added them to my spreadsheet Dive ops by jonhall Do you have some current info about them that their website doesn't provide such as tank sizes available, is nitrox available, where surface interval is done, length of dives, do they pick up by boat from other piers, do they provide...

Trip Report Cozumel Trip Report 2/14/2024 - 2/21/2024

Liquid Blue. Cost is a factor for many. I haven't been with Aldora so can't compare, but knowing most all ops are going to the marine park, give valet service, and give 60+ minutes of dive time (even with 80 cf tanks), there are other great, cheaper options. But Aldora is high on a lot of...

    Dive Operator Recommendations (Cozumel)

Walking north from the terminal, these come to mind. Babieca at El Cid la Ceiba hotel (~10 min walk from stepping off cruise ship) may be the closest - the only reason I mention (not recommend) them. Another 4-5 minute walk gets you to Julio Kin Scuba and Roberta's Scuba Shack (several boats...

Finding a (Best) Dive Op in Cozumel

Been in Australia and New Zealand for the last few weeks and no....I didn't do any diving, but had a nice time anyway! Just seeing the following posts: Thanks for all the info you provided. Will work on adding when I get a chance as long as I can find some info. This list mainly consists of...

Trip Report Cozumel: Winter of the Seahorse, food & lodging info

I believe Liquid Blue picks up at Marina Fonatur. Did you consider any dive op closer to where you were staying or that left from Puerto Abrigo, especially when you stayed at Hotel B or is Liquid Blue your go to op? Thanks for the report - GREAT PICS - always get some new info out of each trip...

Any Advanced OW Padi courses that I can fully complete while in Indianapolis?

Monument Circle is downtown. There's a lot going on in and around Indy. There are 2 dive shops I'm familiar with around Indy and there is at least 1 more I've never been to. Indy MPH Watersports (317) 842-1988 Divers Supply (317) 897-2822 Both shops are now SSI affiliated. You'd have to call...

Question Kauai diving in Late November

Koloa Landing East and Koloa Landing West - both at the same location, diving in different directions. Just be aware the entry is a rocky bottom - one walks across rocks (golf ball to cantaloupe size) to depth before swimming out to a ring buoy before going down. Be sure to wear your boots.

AOW, Stay and General Advice for Cozumel/Cancun?

Maybe no fee. I'm going to be exchanging US for Australian and New Zealand money in a few weeks and my bank told me no fee when getting or returning cash. I guess it's possible though that the rate I get the foreign cash for may be different when I return it.

Finding a (Best) Dive Op in Cozumel

I've actually had them on the list for awhile, last updated 12/3/23. Funny, the term "best" goes back to why I put the term in the title of this thread (explained way back in post #1.) Thanks for the post/link: glad to see a couple of Coz ops on the list. Dive ops by jonhall

AOW, Stay and General Advice for Cozumel/Cancun?

I don't believe that PADI has a threshold - only that a person has completed OW. Basing this solely on my own aspirations to be only a recreational diver and nothing more, I might have said the same thing until I actually got the AOW certification and experienced what it was for me. I'm one of...

Finding a (Best) Dive Op in Cozumel

Just an FYI. I have updated all of the information for every dive op I have in my spreadsheet. The "last update" of information, including prices, is shown in the first column after the dive op name. I have also included a column with a link to the dive op's website. To go to the website, one...
