Yeah, a couple miles I guess. About 2,000'ish feet north of the international railroad bridge. The primary search area was just north of the Peace bridge right off of Broderick (sp?) Park.
Hi Jared. I apologize for not clarifying and explaining a couple things.
Indeed the river speed was what I wrote, at least according to the URT members, a local shop dive master and a few rec divers I met. You are right-there is no swimming against it.
I am not familiar with the St. Clair...
Buffalo dove all afternoon and evening the day of the incident, in addition to whatever training dives they had already completed. They were already in the water Saturday when we showed up and dove non-stop. We kept it going Sunday until the weather turned on us. Some dives were done on...
My opening sentence is the same as my last posting:
The guys and gals of the Buffalo URT are made of steel.
So I think to save myself the embarrassment of countless typos, I'm going to do this with a couple posts. Plus I am teaching at the academy today so my time is limited.
I'm only going...
The guys and gal of the Buffalo Underwater Recovery Team (URT) are made of steel.
Just checked into a hotel. I will relay our experience when we return to Rochester. The hour long ride home can wait until tomorrow. We are going to spend the night with our new, close friends.
Had to call it because of the weather.
Lots of shoreline & river wall covered by us and them today. Erie County Sheriff's ran sonar and dove an area a little further downriver. NYPD continued to use their hand held sonar and others continued to use their side scan. Not sure what dynamic...
Got home a little while ago from Buffalo. The only teams diving were Buffalo and us. We were told the river speed was about 10-12 knots. And it sure felt like it. No luck.
Plan is to be on scene at 8AM tomorrow. Hopefully the predicted thunderstorms don't show up until late afternoon.
Multiple teams/agencies on scene. Diver not found yet. Been a little over four hours since he went missing.
Hope fading as search continues for missing Buffalo police diver
Is anybody using PWC's / RWC's for SCUBA operations? Whether it is for transporting divers & gear, use as dive platforms, etc...
We are considering them for navigating through shallow parts of the river that have been inaccessable by Zodiac.
But we would like to glean any experience other teams...
I know this isn't a PSD topic, but I defer to my colleagues' experience...
Does anybody have a good dive shop/dive spot in the Elizabeth City, NC area? I'm heading out on a last minute trip in the morning.
For the folks who are maintaing their Guardian FFM -
Has anybody figured out a way to rig up a PosiCheck for testing the second stage of the Guardian?
The department will not give us additional money to purchase a magnahelic and certainly no additional money to send them out to be worked on...
Addressing the silt issue - would an octopus holder solve your problem? We have had no issues with the muck causing free flows since we started using them. Not inhaling loose river bottom particles is a bonus.
Completely forgot about the interior pictures. Sorry.
Almost all of the exterior compartments are just open square or rectangular spaces. Each diver has their own locker that includes two tank racks, hanging bar, and two shelves behind a lockable door. Each locker can be accessed through a...
