Question For commercial captains (Baltimore bridge collision)

As a long time Baltimorean, we woke up to some tragic news this morning. The Francis Scott Key bridge, which spans the only way in and out of the Port of Baltimore was struck by a container ship and collapsed. It will take awhile to sort out the ramifications of this incident, but we already...

Question “Comp, “own” and “owl”. This was on my padi dive card for dives in Hawaii I did in Feb. Idk what those terms mean or how to record this in my SSI log

You didn't break any rules at all. I hope you enjoyed your dives on the Big Island and maybe got to see a Green Turtle cleaning station? Keep diving and having fun!

Question “Comp, “own” and “owl”. This was on my padi dive card for dives in Hawaii I did in Feb. Idk what those terms mean or how to record this in my SSI log

By dive card do you mean a piece of paper the dive shop gave you as a record of the dive? Maybe post a picture? Are those items on a checklist? Some versions of a dive log have check boxes for things like Computer, which could be "Comp". OWN and OWL are a little harder to decipher, but OW often...

Trip Video - Lembeh, New Year 2024

Everything is great, but that's the most entrancing Ribbon Eel footage I've ever seen!

Getting to Bali from the East Coast of the US

I hear you. I had a lot of dread beforehand. But, being able to actually move my legs was a big help. I can't sleep on planes at all. I've tried, but it doesn't work. I ordered a whisky and they kept bringing them, but even then I was awake the whole time. I watched an 8-hour documentary series...

Getting to Bali from the East Coast of the US

My wife and I visited Indonesia for the first time this summer. We're coming from the Baltimore/DC area. I did a lot of research. We don't have miles or programs. I am very tall and I really didn't want to fly coach. Upgrading to business or first class was not in our budget. When I discovered...

What are your dive goals / dreams for 2024?

Raja Ampat. Did my first Indonesia trip with 45 dives this past summer and I was completely blown away. Everyone at the resorts said - oh, if you like this, you HAVE to check out Raja Ampat! As if I could just hop over there from the east coast of the US... But, if it's even better than where I...

Places to be left alone while diving warm water?

It's possible, especially from WA, to get to Hawaii Island (The Big Island) without completely breaking the bank. Warm water - Kona is 80°F right now. There are tons of shore dives sites, no one cares about solo. Total cost can be an issue, but it might be worth a look.

Wanted AOI UMG-01 LCD Magnifier for Olympus Compact Camera Housings

If anyone is still interested, I have one. It's basically unused, though the rubber/silicone has aged a little bit. The glass is unflawed.

    Wanted WTB Paralenz camera plus

I've got one from the original kickstarter. Always rinsed, never flooded. Updated firmware, still works well. Just used it for an Indonesia trip. But, I'm going to cycle it out of my equipment, since it's not used much anymore. Well cared for, includes ball mount, spare o-rings, micro-SD card...

    WOO HOO, TG7 announced!!!!!

I think you'll find the TG6 and the TG7 don't come with supplied external battery charger. So, you could go 3rd party, but in this case the battery is designed to be charged inside the camera. Not having to remember to bring an extra USB-A<>Micro USB cable is a benefit in my mind. Being able to...

    WOO HOO, TG7 announced!!!!!

My main camera is a EM1mkII, so no need for that. I use the TG5s when we're snorkeling or for a BHB trip where I don't feel like lugging the whole camera backpack.

    WOO HOO, TG7 announced!!!!!

The lack of full manual is truly disappointing. I have two TG-5s that are showing the extreme wear I've put them through. Was waiting to update until the TG7 came out, assuming it would have full manual. Alas. USB-C is good at least, but not worth the MSRP of $550.

    Blue Heron Bridge Trolls III

During the pandemic, pretty much the only diving I did was a few short trips down to the bridge. I'm getting ready to leave for Indonesia (1st time!) and I wanted to finally finish editing those photos. These are from 2020 - 2023, maybe 10 dives total. Highlights are seashorses, frogfish, mantis...

    lavacore zip full suit

@razorseal - I just ordered 2 lavacores from Diveinn and it didn't seem like a scan. No unexpected charges. Shipping was longer than a US-based operation, but I got a tracking number and was able to keep tabs on the shipment. I love lavacores, but haven't tried the full body one. Only negative...

Trip Report Erojacks Artificial Reef at Dania Beach/ Mizell-Johnson State Park

Great report. I have had a lot of fun diving the erojacks over the years. This might help orient some people who have never visited the area before. If you look closely, you can see the erojacks on Google Maps (Dana Erojack Artificial Reef · 3V7R+77, Hollywood, FL 33004, Vereinigte Staaten) .
