still using a snorkel? or does it stay in the car

I find mine doesn't get in the way, so it stays attached to my mask. I have used it a couple of times, mostly waiting on others or while hanging out at the surface.

I am a fan of the old "Monkey See, Monkey Do".

    LDS tank rental policies?

Sounds like you might want to buy a tank, and save some trouble.

    What limits your bottom time?

I am almost positive I am going to get a bashing, or at least my instructor is. But I had to answer NDL to this one.... I only have 4 OW Dives, all coldish water, and the first two dives it was a Gas issue. I sucked a tank down to about 500psi in about half an hour. However in the two weeks...

Doctor won't sign medical release. What to do?

Well I would say it has something to do with Scar tissue being a lot more dense, and less vascular. Because of these two characteristics it doesn't off gas as quickly as other tissues, trapping in gas'. But that is only a guess!

Doctor won't sign medical release. What to do?

Woa...didn't know having scar tissue pre-disposes someone to DCS. I honestly don't think he knows, I will be sure to keep that in mind and let him know. Thanks for the warning!

As a new diver I can get away with saying this.... In the water!

Lots of love for the local LDS!

:rofl3: No, when I first started looking at diving I did a lot of price checking. They are right in line with most internet pricing, and even cheaper on a few things. Holy crap, and how could they not tell the difference between 3/8 of an inch and 1 full inch?

Doctor won't sign medical release. What to do?

Devon, I can see some of your points but one bit of contention I have with your statement is in regards to the comment of my father "concealing" his injury. At no point did he conceal his physical condition, it was declared. However he felt having a solid fused spine wouldn't cause any...

Lots of love for the local LDS!

So I cruised by my LDS today on my lunch, just to BS and see how things are going. Generally hanging out, roughing out plans for another dive, and spending a lot of time talking about gear. My experience with SCUBA Gear is next to nothing, but hey I am new its ok. Not only that but I am not...

    question on diving problem

First off...SEE A DOCTOR! Second, could be wax build up causing PART of the issue... Third, SEE A DOCTOR! I don't know about many people, but if I had blood coming out of my head and I didn't know why..I would SEE A DOCTOR!

Doctor won't sign medical release. What to do?

UPDATE: My fathers medical history was disclosed to our instructor, but my father also said he should be able to get re-certified and make it without issue. So taking his word the Instructor did not have him go do a medical exam. Upon injuring himself the instructor said he needed to see the...

Games / things to do underwater

Crayfish Torpedoes? We like to shoot them at each other, or sneak them on to each others head or something while swimming. You can also feed the fish the Crayfish, or shoot the Fish with the Crayfish. Um...something nice and relaxing, sitting in a lawn chair at the bottom. Oh my instructors...

    Sticker $$ shock on gear!

Good quality dive gear can be expensive, but once you get in with your LDS you can get pretty sweet deals, and sticker shock just depends on your wallet.

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

Oh. Ha! You did answer it before I asked it! That is what I get for trying to discuss dinner options with the wife and reading the forum at the same time! Well, I personally do not like weight belts in the least. I find them to be a pain and will avoid them when possible, at least at this...

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

How come? What is the disadvantage of having all your weight, including dump-able on the Rig and only one tank?

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

I am a Diver in the Northwest, so cool - cold water diving, 3m wetsuit in summer up through a dry suit in winter. Single tank, an 80al maybe a HP Steel tank. Both Fresh and Cold water diving. FredT, message sent.

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

So with everything I have gathered from this thread, it seems like I could easily get a 6-10lb stainless Back Plate, add a couple dump-able weight pockets to the waistband strap, and be good on the weight and not have to screw with a weight belt. Sounds nice...next question. How much lift should...

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

Oh, nice! But what the hell is with the crotch strap I see on these harness'? I don't want that, I would like a harness with a chest buckle and stomach, but loose the crotch!

    BP/W...please explain what it is!

WOW! A lot of good information here, and yea...should be a sticky. Now I am a bit of a minimalist as it is, and this BP/W things sounds nice, but I have one issue with it. I dislike weight belts, and I am a floater, always have been. In a Full 6.5m Farmer John I require 30lbs to sink. In a...
