No offense intended, but if you can’t do it without gear in a pool, then I’m going to assume that you’re going to have issues with doing it with the drag of a full set of gear.

I’m not an expert nor an instructor. My experience, however, is to take your deep breath and then deliberate strokes. If you try to swim too fast you will end up over exerting and using up your air more quickly. Have you practiced the swim with no gear on to get a baseline?

We are going with Sea Ventures out of Fajardo. According to their website, the entire trip, including two tanks and lunch, is a total of 6.5 hours.

We have two of these. Very sturdy and they have two lockable compartments. The flat bottom one is perfect for fins and booties, the top one for BCD, wet suit and other stuff.

When my wife and I wanted to do a check-out dive, we contacted a local dive shop. They let us know when one of their open water classes was going to be using the pool, and if we rented our tanks from them, they would allow us to use the pool simultaneously.
