I always carry a green laser made for scuba. You can aim it directly at boat or plane instead of hoping someone sees your light. You should notify the boat crew that you carry it so they know in case you use. Also it's a lot of fun underwater with some fish chasing the beam spot.

I think you go with what works best for you. I prefer to have the strap harness be more toward the center of the back plate and not moving around.

When you get it all apart don't forget to check the piston tube edge that seats against the puck. If it has a ding an new seat won't seal. Run your finger nail around it to check, any hang up means it needs to be polished out or replaced. GL
