Diving MUSA - need advice on dive shop

I'll be in Cancun doing a resort inspection and thought while I was there I would dive MUSA (the underwater museum). Has anyone dived it, and if so, what are your thoughts? Also, any recommendations on dive shops?

    Bonaire or Roatan

Joe, you're one of those "cats" I have to herd. :blinking: Kurt's worked his behind off to get us this package. He's just so tenacious that he kept plugging away. I'm grateful, though, that I have such a good sounding board, both within the group and on this forum. It helped solidify the...

    Bonaire or Roatan

When are you going in August TC and where are you staying? Well, I'm going in August. I hope my dive buddies can keep up;); I've already got two that said they will. Seriously, I've never needed to go far, or even get in a vehicle, to have a great shore dive. Buddy's and Capt. Don's both have...

    Bonaire or Roatan

I'd need to go to a work-out boot camp before I'd attempt 35 dives in a week. ;) But I'm usually good for about 20-25. I gave up hard core when I decided that having an apres' dive beer while downloading my pictures was so much easier.

    Bonaire or Roatan

Thanks RoatanMan, but the logic computes when you consider that we've not being offered CoCo View, unfortunately, but Turquoise Bay, as I mentioned in a post. Therefore, we would not have as many dives as with Bonaire. I also have to take into consideration that at least two of our divers have...

    Bonaire or Roatan

The cost for both trips is the same. Land is less in Roatan, air is less for Bonaire, so price wasn't a determiner. Actually the group is pretty easy and some of us have been diving together for 15 years or more. I usually go to DEMA every year and a decision is made based on what's presented by...

    Bonaire or Roatan

Thanks TC. I appreciate the input. You're echoing my sentiments, but I think the group needs to be sold on Bonaire. BTW, we found air to Bonaire cheaper. I'm a travel agent, so I found a flight to Curacao in the $400 range and then a round trip puddle jumper from Curacao to Bonaire for $94. it...

    Bonaire or Roatan

We've got a group that dives together. We're looking at the pros and cons between Bonaire and Roatan in August. Most of us have been to both, but it's been a few years. We've spent the last few years in Brac, Little Cayman, Cozumel, Curacao, and various parts of the S. Pacific. In Roatan...

    Flying into Bonaire

We're going to Bonaire in August as well, but found that the air from New Orleans and Houston was outrageously expensive. So we got creative. It may be a pain in the a**, but we booked it to Curacao for $480, then are taking a puddle jumper to Bonaire for $94 round trip. Not ideal, but we saved...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

Follow-up on the dive buddy/husband... hematologist was unable to identify the serotype and didn't believe an infectious disease doctor was necessary since he had made a full recovery. His advice... don't get bitten again. Of course, he also advised that we not go to areas where there are...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

I like this advice the best Korsu! We see the hematologist again this week, and I'm going to ask about an infectious disease doctor. BTW, this was our 6th trip to Curacao (all previous were without incident). It's true...all it takes is one bite. Guess in 30+ years of diving in the Caribbean...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

It has never been suggested that doxy or malarone be taken to relieve symptoms of malaria or dengue. One must simply ride it out with fluids and Tylenol.

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

There does seem to be some conflict since I have a board certified hematologist who recommends doxy. He said the prevention for dengue is similar to what you would do to prevent malaria. Since many of the areas we travel to are endemic for both dengue and malaria (as well as a host of other...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

It is affecting all of the ABC islands. I'm a travel agent, and I specialize in dive travel. While I am not a physician, I am advising all of my clients who travel to endemic areas, to see a doctor in order to at least get doxycycline or malarone and to use appropriate bug spray as a...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

Bob, When were you there? We were at Habitat from Nov. 13-20. If you see a rash on your legs or back, it's probably dengue. Other symptoms are extremely painful headaches at the base of the neck or behind the eyes and high fever. If you haven't had blood work, you need to have your blood and...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

I personally like Cutter. The hematologist isn't a diver, so his awareness of how deet works with dive gear is non-existent. However, to be fair, the only time we were bitten was after diving and not during the day while we were using gear. We go back to the hematologist next week for follow-up...

Pack your insect repellent! Dengue fever in Curacao

As divers we tend to think mainly about the dangers lurking underwater without much thought to those above. We returned from a dive trip to Curacao Nov. 20. Within three days my husband/dive buddy had 102+ temperature. Within four days we were at the ER. After ruling out typical things such as...

    So ..Where have you dived?

Florida (all over), Utah (in a quarry), Bonaire, Curacao, Cozumel, Akumal, Ambergris Caye, Roatan, British Virgin Islands, American Virgin Islands, Truk Lagoon, Palau, Cayos Cachnios (Honduras), Utila (Honduras), Big Cayman and Little Cayman, Fiji, the Georgia Aquarium (whale sharks), Cabo...

    Cozumel or Costa Maya? (nov)

Everyone's right... def Cozumel. I can recommend Dive Paradise. I've been diving with them since the early '80's. They work great with cruise ships, they have several shop locations that are near the docks in Cozumel, they have one of the best safety records, and you won't feel like you're on a...
