Traveling to St Thomas in February

My wife son and I are traveling to St Thomas for a week in February. I am the only diver and I am looking for recommendations on dive operations and of coarse places to eat and drink. From the searches I understand St Thomas is not the best dive location but Ill be happy to be in the water for a...

See, its good to have a SMB in the open ocean

"We could see two divers with all their equipment and an inflated red tube," the yacht's capitan Elie Trichet told the Herald. Two divers left at sea in Miami while scuba diving from a cattle boat.

I always get alot of water in my ears when I roll on to my back

When ever I dive if I roll on my back or luck under me to look back water rushes into my ears. It will stay there for the dive and beyond at times. Very annoying. Is it just me??

Nothing saps your testosterone more than having the weakest dive light.

It wasn't all that but it was funny. I got a call from my instructor/mentor/friend on Friday that he and his wife were going to Dutch Springs on Saturday and did I want to join them for some dives and a night dive. My schedule was full at the office Saturday morning but I split after work and...

So I purchased a brand new dive flag last Friday for scallop diving in Cape Ann on Monday. We are down about 50 feet visibility is a bout 15 feet, water tempaerature is a balmy 56 deg.. Great experience with DiveTech

Still in Grand Cayman but completed three boat dive trips with DiveTech. They picked me up from my hotel every morning. There were 13 of us on the larger boat (Atitude) and they allowed divers to pair off and do their own thing within the set dive profile or tag along with the leader. They also...

    West end feb 21 - 22

I am going with the family to Cayman for the first time from February 19 thru the 25. I booked 2 boat dive days (so far) with DiveTech 21 and 22 in the am. I will be diving as a single wasn't sure if anyone was going to be down there during that time. Secondly, where are some good places to eat...

    Portable platform for shore dives

On shore dives, I always find it interesting to see what people drag out of their trunk. I also like to observe how they pack their gear. I have learned and now utilize many of their ideas. Some locations have wooden picnic benches and such for the divers to use. My instructor/dive...

    Purchased steel 100's, new weighting.

I purchased a nice set of used steel 100's a few weeks ago. I'm heading down to Dutch Springs on Saturday. Purely as a rough starting point how much weight should I remove from my base weight to test buoyancy. Its a slight walk to the platforms so I'm just trying to give myself a starting point...

    Completed Rescue Diver Training.

Well, on an over cast zero visibility weekend on the beach in Norwalk CT. 5 of us completed our Rescue Diver Certification. The instructors did an amazing job of setting up surprise scenarios to make it as realistic as possible. I learned alot about myself and certainly realize that this is...

    First Dry Suit Dives

Well I can see why so many people enjoy their Dry Suits. I went to Dutch Springs this past weekend and participated in the DUI Dog Days. I only tried the TLS350. I had dove my 7 mil suit on Saturday for 3 dives and then had the opportunity to try the dry suit for 2 dives on Sunday. There were...

    I'm in aruba

We arrived yesterday afternoon. Weather is amazing. Took a walk down the beach looking for the Native Divers tent as someone mentioned. Easy to spot. Rachel? was manning the table, mentioned that I had a quick email from Romeo and I suddenly felt I had just arrived at a friends house that I have...

Tip given to a crew member or the Captain or DM

I appreciate all the good feedback on tipping and $5 a tank seems like a good starting point. Whom would you hand the tip too. I saw someone said the captain and in front of the crew but I'm just curious what others do. Thanks again!

    Tipping

Well maybe I've seen this asked but not recently. What is the consensus on tipping on the boat dive. Amount and who? If it matters my trip will be in Aruba.

    Aruba in February

Well I have been watching the various recommendations on diving in Aruba and I contacted Jads and Native. Jads responded the next day and said I could make a reservation with a deposit. Romeo from Native said not to worry about it until I got there and gave me the work and his personal number to...

    filter/humidifier

i've seen a unit that can be used to filter the air from the tank but more importantly it will add moisture to the air I breath. I will say I had some dry mouth with the regulators I rented. I recently purchased an Aeris Ion and that didn't occur. I was just wonder what other divers were doing.

Great first dive with Aeris Ion

Well, I certainly have not tried enough equipment to be a great resource but I know what works. I just purchased the Aeris Ion w/AT400 and had a chance to do 3 dives this past Sunday. I am very pleased!! We dove as deep as 75' and it was as cold as 56 degrees and I never noticed any variances...
