Wife will not let me dive without a dive master..

Get in some dives, then get an advanced certification. Do some specialty classes like buoyancy control and deep diving. I highly recommend at least getting to rescue diver. Keep you knowledge level ahead of the diving you like to do. Your wife will worry less and you'll be a better buddy.

Scubapro and parts for life questions

I missed my annual by 2 weeks this year on my MK25/A700, its supposed to be done within 13 months I was 13 months and 2 weeks. My bad. However, when I look at my next regs (buying a couple for my sidemount rig and maybe a deco set soon) the 'free parts' wont factor in to my decision. What...

    "Drop Foot" and scuba diving

I recently took a course on instructing Adaptive Scuba, that focused on teaching people how to dive with a multitude of different "disabilities", amputees, neurological issues and even quadriplegia. It sure opened my eyes to the possibilities for everyone. If your doctor approves diving, get a...

Silver Prince / Aquatic Discovery Scuba Center - thanks for the spam

I completely agree. I own several domains so I make up a unique email to use for any company that requires one. If I ever get anything unwanted on that email, I just permanently redirect it to their support, sales, abuse and any other address I can find. If they cant be trusted to keep the...

Looking for a recomendation for Tahoe

Planning to dive Tahoe this weekend with my son. The last couple years we dove out of Sand Harbor and the boat launch spot just south of there on the other side of the tunnel, don't remember the name, had a great time at both places. This year we are looking for another spot with easy...

    little jerk kids in kayaks

I'm concerned for these poor kayakers, dont they know how easy those things are to tip over? I would feel terrible if one of them got all wet. It would also be terrible if somehow a chumcicle got stuck to the bottom of the kayak. They really should be careful. They say a picture is worth a...

    Island Style vs Slide Ring

Here in Utah they require a line. :( The JBL rep said they dont make the lightning with a slide ring anymore. I'm not going to buy something new that comes broken and requires a modification to shoot, so I just bought a nice Mares gun with the open guide in the front.

    Island Style vs Slide Ring

Last fall I purchased a JBL Lightning that has the slide ring style tether on the spear. I recently ordered another gun, however it came with the Island Style tether where the cable is attached to the back end of the spear and is pushed through the front guard thing over the rail. The...

Who has used a Tachyon camera?

Nice review, I can see why you're popular with the manufacturers. They recently changed their lineup on the site. I don't see the Tachyon XC HD on there anymore. They now have the Tachyon micro HD, which is in the smaller case (I think it was around 1/2" in each dimension.) I haven't used...

Who has used a Tachyon camera?

It says they will be available in July on the site. Where did you see the thing about limited to 30 min? I know that the video comes out in 30 minute chunks, but it just starts a new chunk till your card runs out of space.

Who has used a Tachyon camera?

I've used the XC Micro for the last few dives I've gone on. It works great. The only issue's I've had are, low light (new HD model is supposed to be better on this) and having it mounted to my mask strap is sometimes tilted. I'm going to mount a Picatinny rail on the side of my mask to aim it...

Thinking of purchasing a GoPro ... please advise a newbie

You may also want to consider a Tachyon. I've been using the standard res version for a couple months and have loved it. (They have a video I made on the front page.) The only issues I've had were due to low light conditions where I didn't bring a sufficient light. The new HD wide angle...

    Atom 2.0 help

How close do you hold the computer to the transmitter? Mine has difficulty at about 3ft out of water and sometimes less in water. Also there's some setting, I forget where, that you use to activate a second receiver. If I remember correctly (I'm at work) you are able to tell it to not monitor...

Two fatalities at Harvard Mine, California

There are different procedures for No Decompression diving and Tec (decompression) diving. I'll avoid going into details, since I do not want to encourage any experimentation.

    Breathe Uncompressed Air Underwater

OK just for S&G. Made up assumptions: Sac = .5 Breath from air pocket and exhale to open water to avoid CO2 problems. To have 2,880 min (48 hours * 60 Min) of air with the assumed sac, there would have had to be 1,440 cu. ft of air in there. (volume assumed compressed to whatever...

    Fiction Writer needs Scuba Realism

Call your local scuba shop and ask to watch the pool session for a rescue diver training. You will see that floating face down is just as likely as face up and watch realistic rescue scenarios.
