You should read forum Descent Mk1 - Garmin Forums
Briefly: MK1 sold in Europe has mainly European maps, while MK1 purchased anywhere outside the EU does not have EU maps installed.
Of course, AI is very useful function, especially for those of you who dive with your own equipment.
For me that I travel (sometimes even in very distant places) and renting equipment there, AI is not crucial at all, because rented equipment is not equipped with AI transmitters.
For me, Descent...
I am also extremely happy with the Descent MK1!!!
Finally a watch that "can do everything": I can wear it all day, every day, with various Watch Faces is suitable for any occasion, it is usefull even at night, if you want to analyze sleeping, it is useful for all sports (inside, outside, in the...
As recreational and free diver I'm still extremely satisfied with Descent MK1. I do not have any problems at all with it: the depth sensor works as expected (last used diving modes is activated automatically at 1.2 m depth), UW compass is fixed and I do not have any problems in other sports...
Yes!
Descent MK1 supports single-gas, multi-gas, gauge and apnea diving, including nitrox and trimix; plan your dives directly on the device Descent MK1 Dive Watch | Diving | Garmin (up to 6 gases!)
@marshallkarp
As far as I know, all Garmin watches are compliant to IPX standard, only Garmin Descent MK1 is compliant to EN13319 standard which, in opposed to the IPX standard, allows the use of all functions (especially the push of buttons) even deep underwater.
That's why I'm sure that only...
Just check User Manuals for both, Descent MK1 and Fenix 5x, and read this https://www.dcrainmaker.com/2017/10/garmins-descent-mk1-diving-gps.html/ you will find that there are no such differences between the two devices.
Here Connect IQ | Garmin is everything you can "put" on Descent MK1!
Yesterday I (finally!) got mine Silver Sapphire Descent MK1 with Black Band! It is incredible watch - really true all-in-one instrument in the size of the watch!
It certainly paid off to me, because I now have the same watch/instrument for all the sports that you can imagine and (which is incredibly amazing) also for diving. The only minus of Descent MK1 is lack of air integration.

Yup, everything else is there, including maps that vary based on region. Think of this as a Fenix 5XU (where U stands for Underwater).

DCRainmaker, who has already tested it says, that the Descent MK1 has, besides the dive computer, everything that 5x has: Hands-on: Garmin’s New Descent MK1 Diving Watch
(Suunto manual)
5.8.2. Setting the depth notify alarm (FREE mode)
You can set the depth notify alarm to indicate a certain depth, for example, start of free falling or mouth filling in free diving
In fact, for me this is just another depth alarm, which I use it to remind me (at certain, not yet...
I need the following functions:
- Depth alarm
- Depth notify alarm
- Dive time alarm
- Surf time notify alarm
- Sample rate (! adjustable 1,2,5,10 seconds)
- Compass
- At least one user-configurable data screen (like Fenix)
- Compatibility with DiveMate! I contacted DiveMate today and they...
It would be very useful if the Garmin Descent Mk1 had at least such settings as the Suunto D4i Novo (in freedive mode), and at least one user-configurable data screen.
