I have to agree on the Mk17/G250V combo. I was diving a MK25/S600 combo and that thing lasted 12 minutes in 43 degree water before free flowing. My dive buddy used the MK17/G250V combo without issue at all. We swapped air and went to the surface.

As a new diver, I stick within the edge of my comfort zone. Meaning, I push it a little bit beyond, but NEVER sacrifice my safety, or my dive buddy's. He has twice as many dives as I do, which still isn't much by some standards, so I try to keep up with him. Some things I have done early on...

I don't have ankle problems, but I can tell you I LOVE my FF Pros. I've tried the Twin-Jets and was NOT impressed. They felt soft and unresponsive to me. I went back to the FFs and I am not looking at anything else. I hope they work for you, and I'd also like to echo my thanks for your service.
