Anyone Found Their Fusion Dry Core Socks Too Big and How Do You Handle It.

I have the white inserts installed in my Fusion with the attached boot. This is the only configuration I've ever seen or heard of them being used in. I don't see how you could use them with any type of boot you have to put on after doning your suit. They are very rigid and would make putting...

    Liveaboard Doubles?

I know Wookie's boat the M/V Spree in Key West and Blue Iguana's boat the R/V Kate in Key Largo are both doubles and tech friendly.

    Boat Coat?

+1 for the TruWest parka. Was on a boat early thus spring when the weather turned and was the only one that was warn and dry on the trip back in.

    Myrtle Beach worth diving?

There is some very good diving in the Myrtle Beach area. However, this is different than what you are used to. The boat rides are long and can be rough and the boat is just a ride out and back, they will not be setting up your gear or providing a guide or anything else. However, you can dive on...

What's a guy gotta do to dive with sharks?

Plan a trip to North Carolina. We have plenty of sharks that you can dive with :-) Check out some of the dive blogs from Mike Gerkin and Olympus Dive Center in Morehead City from last year. It's not unusual to have more sharks on the wrecks than divers. And these are not the same "shark dive"...

    Morehead City 31 MAR/ 1 APR

Melissa, I'll second the recommendation for Olympus. Great dive operator and at this time of the year you'll have water temps in the low 60's and 30-40ft vis. Check their web site and Facebook pages, they regularly post dive reports.

Moving to Durham area this summer, where to live/dive?

Welcome to North Carolina!!! For fills check out Down Under Surf and Scuba in Cary. Tech friendly and they can do any fills you need. Local diving is limited to Fantasy Lake Scuba Park and the PRDA Quarries. And, as an additional charter operator in Morehead City check out Olympus Dive Center...

Diving questions for NC and SC

For SC diving I recommend Express Watersports in Murrells Inlet just south of Myrtle Beach. Lots of good wrecks and a good charter operator. Plus if your significant other doesn't dive there is lots to do while you play with the fish ;-).

Advice for week-long dive trip to the Carolinas

Lots of options and depending on what part of the Carolinas you looking at you may have better options than other areas. Morehead City, NC is a great location and put you right in the middle of some serious wreck diving. I've dove with several of the operators in the area and prefer Olympus...

NC Diving during winter? A few questions

I've dove with Olympus out of Morehead City during the winter and the conditions vary according to location. Offshore wrecks are warmer (60's) and better vis than the inshore wrecks (50's). However, vis can vary from day to day and cane anywhere from a few feet to 20-30 feet. Hope this helps. Gary

A few options for you: W.E. Hutton (aka Papoose) Atlas Spar All of these are great dives. The boat rides can be rough. I get seasick as well and ended up having my doctor give me a prescription for motion sickness medication. The over the counter stuff just wasn't working for me. Took a...

    need ANDP advise

First off, if you're worrying about the price of books you may want to reconsider tech diving. This is a very expensive style of diving and $60 for books is a drop in the bucket compared to what you're going to spend on equipment and gas fills. As for the TDI books, the Adv. Nitrox book is not...

    Goods reading on decompression models?

+1 for Deco for Divers. Good read if you want an introduction to decompression theory without the hard core math. Also, Tom Mount's book "The Tao of Underwater Survival" has a section on decompression theories. While the entire book is not dedicated to the subject, the materials presented are...

    Recreational Rescue Class in Doubles

A couple of things to consider about taking the class in doubles. First, can the instructor handle having a student in doubles. If not, take the class with a single tank or find another instructor. The other thing to consider is the benefits you and the other students will receive by you diving...

    Certification Requirements to Dive

Note sure what dive shop you talked to but if you want to dive out of Morehead City, Olympus Dive Center should take you. Here's the requirements from their web site: Requirements: Advanced certification OR 20 logged dives including 1 dive to 100'+, 1 boat dive and 1 dive in the past 12 months

what to expect in November, NC

Surface temps could be anywhere from the 40's to the 70's or even 80's. Water temps will vary depending on inshore or offshore locations but will run from the low 60's (inshore) to the upper 60's to low 70's offshore. Vis is a crap shoot and can be from 20 feet to 60-80 feet. You can check fill...

    Drysuit in warm water...

I am a huge fan of layering. Base layer and in warm water the only layer is REI Polar Tech fleece. Light weight for 75+ and heavy weight for anything below 75. The REI top and bottom are almost identical to 4th Element Exotherm. Once the water temp drops to the point I'm starting to get cold I...

    Predator Version 36

Bruce, I'll be diving this weekend off Myrtle Beach , SC and will have a chance to try out the update. Based on the release notes this looks like a great update and I can't wait to see how well it performs. And now the we can select our last stop depth at 10 or 20 feet I'd like to request an...
