    recommendations ?

thanks for all the replies everyone; I would definitely go with someone who has been diving a while and is very comfortable in the water. Think I am going to give some thought to Spanish Rocks. Hopefully the weather gets a little clearer soon. I'll post a thread to see if anyone would be...

    Descending too fast

How do you start your descent? Try not letting quite as much air out of your BC to begin with, and remember there is often a delay in what you do with the BC to you rising/sinking. Let out a few little puffs of air, give it a few seconds to let you start descending, and if you want to go further...

Introductions - Dive Buds - Best of both threads

Name: Dee/Deanna Location: Tampa, Carrollwood Area Comments:I am 20 years of age and have just switched from a psych major to a marine bio major at USF. I love diving, and was certified back in April. I need to rent reg, bcd, and tanks, and that (at the moment) is keeping me from diving much...

    Hello!

Hello everyone! I am in the tampa area, and would love to go diving with some of you in the future. I have been to Rainbow River, Hudson Grotto, and Devils Den (my favorite!). I have yet to dive the gulf but I am dying to. I am a Marine Bio USF student, just quit my retail job to...

4 days to OW Certification, do I need a smoke?

congratulations! I quit almost 4 months ago, I'm sure you can too! If you can stop for family vacations, then you can stop for good. My big thing was that my ex had me smoking every time we got into the car, so if i was driving i was just so...bored(?) without a cigarette. I had wanted to quit...

    Very nervous about "deep" dives

I can tell you that my first checkout dive (SSI not PADI though) was at 22 feet. As soon as I got down, i did look up and think "Wow, there is 22 feet between me and the surface" but that was the last I thought about it. My second checkout dive was on a platform 20 feet down. Yes, we could have...

    Tanks?

Personally I am going to wait to buy tanks (unless I find a really good used deal). Since I am still a relatively new diver, I would rather spend my money on more personal items, such as BCD or regs or a computer. I see where it would be easier for you to have filled tanks on hand, that way...

    Touching Whale Sharks

I don't see a shark as having a slime coat, but I do not know much about sharks yet. As for fish, they do have a slime coat that can be taken off by being touched by either hands, nets, or other fish who eat the slime coat (such as algae eaters). The slime coat helps keep the fish from getting...
