    Dive tank permanent expiration?

Just for info, I've had no problem at all getting my 6351 tank filled here (Hawaii). I've had it vis'd a couple of times; each time they've done they eddy current test for sustained load cracking.

Sorry, I'll be working both days... Wish I could dive instead! Tim

Life for 1 vs. Death for 2

Situation dependent. There are people for whom I believe I would give my life attempting to save (wife, kids). Anyone else? Hard to say, but I can say that as long as I was underwater, I'd be doing my level best to see them make it out alive as well. There certainly may come a point where...

    Washing gear after vacation

That's what I thought. Seemed a little like overkill to categorically say "don't soak the first stage." If I can spend an hour underwater with my reg attached to a tank, I'm sure it can stand an hour or two attached to a tank in a tub on my porch. Tim

If I might ask, why not soak the first stage? Tim

    Air Fill Protocol

"...compressed air tanks and tanks used to carry hazardous materials..." Compressed air IS a hazardous material, and the part I quoted DOES applies to transporting compressed air. There are additional restrictions if the compressed gas you're transporting happens to have another hazard class...

    Air Fill Protocol

Just have to clear something up. When you say "...referencing sections that refer to actual hazardous materials rather than gases such as air and nitrox...", I assume you're referring to my post where I said: You may disagree, but Title 49 is pretty clear. A non-flammable, non-poisonous gas...

    Air Fill Protocol

Very interesting subject. For those readers in the United States, from the Code of Federal Regulations: "Title 49: Transportation PART 173-- SHIPPERS--GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR SHIPMENTS AND PACKAGINGS Subpart G--Gases; Preparation and Packaging § 173.301 General requirements for shipment of...

    Moving to Oahu

Gabe and Kaimana Divers do get a lot of great press here, I just haven't had the opportunity to dive with them yet, so I can't really have an opinion. I just got back at it after a pretty long break, so I hope to give them a try one of these days... Tim

    Where did you dive today?

Kane Point (aka Electric Beach). Glassy smooth today, good vis (but not great). Saw a couple of turtles, the usual suspects of reef fish, and a cool, bright purple nudibranch. Just over an hour underwater. Proof positive you can have a great dive and not go deeper than 30 feet. Oh, it was...

    Moving to Oahu

Military-affiliated, by chance? There's a pretty good military dive club on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam (on the Hickam side), Sea Lancers Diving Club. As far as shops go, I can mention three right off the bat: Island Divers Hawaii, with a satellite shop on Hickam; Ocean Concepts, who's main...

Need course and gear advice for trip to Hawaii April 2013

All of my dives here have been in a 3.5 full suit, never got cold. I've also seen folks doing the "board shorts and rash guard" option who were just fine (usually on shallower dives). The shop where I got trained required students to have their own mask, fins, snorkel, and boots (if you...

    Car key question

Many cars have a tie-down fitting, or something much like one (steel loop connected to to chassis/frame). Get one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Master-Lock-5400D-Set-Your-Own-Combination/dp/B0002YP1VC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1343192900&sr=8-1&keywords=lock+box and attach it to the car, then...

First time diver with question about weird physical sensations after cert dives!

+1 Woke up "paralyzed" once and was convinced Satan was looming over my bed. Still freaks me out to think about it. BTW, turns out it wasn't Satan after all. It was actually a red, heart-shaped mylar balloon my gf had given me for Valentine's Day.

    Spectators at Incident Today

We should keep in mind that what we believe to be "proper" or "tasteful" is different from what may be protected or required by law. In the vast majority of cases, if you are in a public place, you have no legal right to privacy. I don't believe a person's physical condition (i.e., impending...
