    Regulator Opinions

You should look into the Atomic line of regulators as well. No matter what you choose, definitely opt for the environmentally sealed first stage. As mentioned earlier it does help with the cold water, but more importantly it will keep contaminants out. Not that I'm admitting that our water is...

    Dive Trailer Design

For that price I'm going to have to look into it. I was kicking around the idea of getting a van for diving, but this is much cooler! Since I don't have a garage there is an added benefit to the trailer. Thanks!

Ball park, what would a trailer set up like this cost?

    Ocean Encounters Curacao

I didn't like OE and neither did any of the divers I spoke to down there. Shortly after I returned, my dive shop led a trip down there and everyone was dissapointed. When I go back I'll likely use the Dive Bus.

    Diving Locker... 50% off

I'm sorry to hear that they're closing as well. Great prices, but why aren't they listed as an authorized dealer on Atomic's website?

My bad. Community First Aid and Safety (CFAS) is the basic Red Cross first aid with adult, child, and infant CPR. National Safety Council (NSC) American Safety and Health Institute (ASHI) both have First Responder courses that are good, but far beyond what the average (lay) person needs. I...

Advanced Open Water- Which Adventure Dives?

All three are excellent choices (PPB, SAR, & Naturalist)! It's a shame you won't be able to complete a wreck dive, but I hope you're trip to Cancun makes up for it. Nitrox, Photography, and Multi level may also be good for you.

As a diver the EFR course is a little more beneficial than the ARC course. One thing that EFR covers are standards across the world, where as ARC will be specific to one Country. I'm guessing we're comparing apples to apples here (EFR to CFAS). The ARC CFAS course does not really prepare you...

    what were your first certifications?

I went from OW to Rescue with 8 specialties in my first year of diving. I try and take at least one class a year. I'm a huge believer in continuing education, in diving and out! *I believe there are some certifications that you shouldn't rush namely PRO & Tec.

    VAT on purchases from Europe?

Keep in mind that you will have to pay US Custom's Duty on the equipment. Also something to consider, most US Companies won't warranty products purchased in Europe inside the US. Meaning that you may have to pay to ship it back to the UK for the shop to have it repaired and it may be subject...

Dive options when limited to 40 feet

Another vote for Bonaire. Not only do you have the great diving at limited depths, but you don't have any additional pressure from the boat or other divers. This gives you and your daughter a lot of flexibility. It's a great place to build comfort and experience.

PADI Certifications - Couple of questions...

I wasn't being that technical, just answering that he wouldn't be able to skip the pool sessions all together (as stated in the OP's #2).:D And No, knowledge reviews are completed online (not with the instructor).

    V-Planner iPhone / iPod - now available

Great Job Ross, as always! The one thing I would like to see in future versions is the ability to +/- depth & time for contingencies. It's the only feature I'm missing from the desktop version. 2.0 makes it a little more difficult to do it manually.

PADI Certifications - Couple of questions...

Time is always the issue and I can certainly relate to that. I’m sure this will start some great debate, but who cares. There are a lot of advantages to the online program. I’ve heard all the debates, but the bottom line is online learning works for most. I’m also above...

Shark Tonic Immobility - Where to see this?

I'm not sure what you're looking for, but there was an awesome special on National Geographic about Killers Whales using this tactic on Great White sharks. It may be worth it for you to look into it.

How much do Atomic regs cost to service?

I'm thinking I've spent around $50 to $100 to have my M1 serviced over the years. I like the fact that they have the 2 yr /300 Dive Interval. One thing that I do is have them serviced in different years (one a year) so it keeps the cost down. My cave instructor told me a story of when he had...

    sunk on purpose....no appeal?

I'm in complete agreement with you! I can appreciate the concept of artificial reefs, but don't find any thrill in diving intentionally sank ships. I think it's ironic how the ship spends its entire career trying to stay above water only to be retired to the bottom of the ocean!
