    Just landed in Bonaire

For a lot of Europeans, getting to Bonaire takes about the same amount of time and effort (and cost) as getting to S. E. Asia. With the covid restrictions that are currently in place in countries like Thailand, Indonesia and Malaysia those options have been effectively taken away. Bonaire is...

Trip Report Bonaire: Den Laman and Dive Friends, October 20-November 3, 2021

We were there for three weeks and saw the frogfish most days we were there. Only once were they posing nicely together, usually they were a few feet apart. It was visit number 11 for us and we had never seen it so busy. There were always a lot of cars at Salt Pier but it did not affect the...

Trip Report Bonaire: Den Laman and Dive Friends, October 20-November 3, 2021

The ones that we saw seemed to sleep in the same locations so we could easily find them at 6:30am or 5:30pm. They moved during the day to different places and were not as easy to spot (apart from the big female yellow who was easy to find no matter how far away she moved during the day!)

No it is yellow. Slightly bigger than the small one in the pair. We were told about a grey one at 13m but were never able to find it.

The frog fish were still there two hours ago! There is a third in 7 - 8m about 10 minutes further North. It is harder to find but it has been there for the last week.

Trip Report Bonaire: Den Laman and Dive Friends, October 20-November 3, 2021

We have been told that they have already been fined $1.2m by STINAPA. The sand was supposed to be completely contained but had already been getting onto the reef. Also told that construction was halted until they resolved the issue. (Not sure if the figure is 100% accurate as it has come via a...

    Aqualung regs...

We do look after our equipment. However, a lot of our diving is done while travelling in S.E. Asia and it is not always possible to clean and dry things as thoroughly as we would like to before having to pack them away. I realise that this will have an impact after a few years but there are...

    Aqualung regs...

It is the Titan that I have. I have had to replace the octopus and that does not have a name on it but my original second stage has Titan on it. My local shop charges £100 to service Aqualung but more for other brands but after what I was told last time, I would rather put the money towards a...

    Aqualung regs...

I can't remember exactly but when I collected them from service, he did explain that they were not in great condition and he had had to think about whether or not they should be serviced again. He did show me photos of the insides of the second stages which did seem to have a lot of dirt in...

    Aqualung regs...

About 14 years ago, I bought my first set of Aqualung regs (Calypso or Titan, I think). They were the cheapest regs I could buy at the time and I have not had any problems with them in over 1,500 dives. The last time they were serviced, I was told that they were getting towards the end of their...

Travel from Bonaire to the UK banned

Not much has actually changed. It is not a ban from traveling. Previously in theory, if you traveled from Bonaire to the UK you did not have to self isolate for two weeks on arrival. This has now changed: "If you are returning to the UK from Bonaire/St Eustatius/Saba on or after 4am on 16...

Any thoughts or insight as to when Bonaire may reopen?

That is the same in the UK and in a lot of European countries I think. We had been reasonably optimistic about still being able to go but have realised over the last few weeks that the chances of being allowed in have been getting less and less. I agree - that is just the way things are this year!

Any thoughts or insight as to when Bonaire may reopen?

Do you know what criteria they are using to decide which countries you are allowed to enter from? It looks as if currently you can enter Bonaire if you are from Belgium, Netherlands or France, all of which have much higher rates of infection per 100,000 than the UK. We have just had to postpone...

It looks as if this has just been extended to October 1st

What was your travel outcome on bonaire

Due to go for one week in September. Hoping to be able to extend this to two weeks now as a couple of shorter non-diving holidays have had to be canceled and I have a few extra days holiday available. Every cloud......

Dive sites I will always do again, dive site I will not do again.

We usually stay at Sand Dollar and have dived from The Cliff back to the Sand Dollar Pier several times. The first time we did it, it was due to the current as described in a previous post i.e. We got as far as the small wreck and did not want to turn back into the current. The current was not...
