S38 LX and Elite 2 harness

I'm getting into this discussion a little late, so bear with me. I just purchased the same set up, and while following the directions, noticed the same issue. I did a Google search, and while going blind on videos, noticed one set up where the waist belt was threaded through the two slots just...

Marcus Luttrell - The Lone Survivor

If you liked Lone Survivor, I would also suggest reading the following: "Not a Good Day to Die", by Sean Naylor "One Bullet Away", by Nathaniel Fick "Black Hearts", by Jim Frederick "Where Men Win Glory", by John Krakauer "Ghost Wars", by Steve Coll.

    Scuba stuff in thrift stores.

For great deals, I keep an eye on the paper for Estate Sales. I've been pleasantly surprised a few times on items that are in great shape, and dirt cheap when compared to brand new. Garage sales are another avenue (depending on where you live). Pawn Shops are another source, but you need to...

    Infor needed for Zodiac Repairs

We got the floor in by deflating the boat to almost empty. Attached the front skirt to the bow thruster board, then slowly worked the floor backwards, until it was level and straight. Once good, we reattached the rear skirt to the transom, and all was well. Almost........ Did a float...

    Infor needed for Zodiac Repairs

The 303 held up fine. I put several coats on, and in between each one I let it sit for a while, then wiped off any excess with a clean dry cloth. So far so good. Only b#$%*h was getting the roll up floor back in straight and where it should be. Thing is ready to go, so next week it's dive time.

    Infor needed for Zodiac Repairs

I should explain that a little better. The seams I was speaking of were the seams for the roll up floor, which can be removed. Gas and Oil spills had eaten the glue away in some spots. Rather than doing a half-assed job, I pulled the seams all the way apart, cleaned off all the old glue, then...

    Infor needed for Zodiac Repairs

Project is about done. Recoated the keel with Liquid Rubber, and used the Boat Coat you mentioned for the underside of the main tubes (below the fender line). Took 303 protectant to the topside of the tubes, and cleaned off any oxidation. Reglued some loose seams on the floor, and took out the...

    Omg obama!

You can forget the dance. The "OK" he gave opens up one small area off the Atlantic Seaboard for "Exploration" There will be no new drilling off the California coast (within 50 miles, where 70% of the oil is located). I'm sure California would really like to have that extra income since they...

    Infor needed for Zodiac Repairs

Ok, Here's what I have: I was able to score a Zodiac F470, which is in good shape (tubes hold air, no major damage, keel fine, transom seals intact and still attached). However, the rubber is oxidized, as it sat out side and the cover was not fully around the boat. Also, the transom...

    Inflatable Boat Advice

I'll refrain from playing English Professor, and assume you are asking for a decent inflatable boat of some kind. My adivce would be the Zodiac F470. Handles up to 50hp, has room for 4 guys and all gear, solid deck, weighs about 300lbs w/out motor, is easy to deflate and store, easy to patch...

Scuba diver arrest warrant - dale batt *please read*

When you are looking to find said "d@&n wifebeater", you leave no stone unturned. Put the pressure on him; keep him looking over his shoulder; and get his name and face out there to the public. Eventually he'll make a mistake, someone will recognize him, and he'll get cought. You would be...

    Any opinions on Poseidon?

I dive a Jet Stream, and have not had any issues with it. However the service is expensive when compared to other regs out there, and it can be tough to find a LDS that does work on them. They can be "quirky", and you really need to do the post dive PMS on them religiously, or you will have an...

    Underwater fighting

Regarding the link for Post #30; That's not BUD/S. That is part of the SCUBA Course at Panama City. What you are seeing is "Pool Week", also known as "Problem Solving", which every Student in the Diving Program has to pass before he or she moves on. BUD/S has the same practice, but they use...

Good shop(s) for OW training in Ventura area?

I believe there is a LDS in Simi Valley, as I have seen their advertisment on the Net. For the life of me, I can't remember the name. I would suggest also checking out Santa Barbara also. Hope this helps, as it's been a few years since I've been down there.

    Are you armed?

Yes, I am. Only dangerous if you threaten my Family or my life. That being said, with over 20 years of arresting/chasing/investigating bad guys/crooks/dirt balls, the one major thing I learned was that the Government, be it Federal, State, County or City, has no legal requirement to...

Dumbest things you've seen a newbie diver do

Taking his buddy out diving who was not a certifed Diver, and telling him that there was nothing to worry about, because he was just certfied, and knew what to do. Then not seeing him shoot to the surface from 40', where the AGE hit, because he was still down looking for his Pal. The pal was...

    Question on Certification

Jim, Thanks again for all your assistance in this. I really appreciate all you've done, and that SEI will allow Military Divers to be Certifed. Keep me posted if you ever head to Monterey Cal, as I can get there in about a day. I am headed down to So Cal for MK16 dives this month and next...

    Question on Certification

Well, I don't try and give the impression that what I did for my training makes me better than the next diver. I would say that my training was a lot longer, and a little more intense at times. I honestly feel that I can learn from any diver, it's just up to me to ask the question. The Tech...

    Lake Tahoe

Dive it when I can, as I live in Nevada. You can expect cold water (50) at the surface, and even colder at depth. Use a 7mm full with a hood, or dive dry. Yes, it will suck when jocking up, but you will be thankfull 20 mins into your dive. Viz runs from 50 (early when snow run off is heavy)...

wait time before and after flight

No, There is no "rule" that reads you can not dive after flying. Like RJP wrote, you can jump right into the water off the on ramp if you can arrange it. I would suggest though that you stay hydrated during the flight if you are going to do that.
